R U sure that the alternator is an external model? I've heard of people switching to an internal regulated alternator, but not disconnecting the external regulator. Re:Re: [Chevelle-List] Retractable seat belts
Michael If 69 is anything like 72, you need to get up close. You will see that the back side of the cover has plastic flap. Also you will see that it is hinged (by the plastic) at the top or bottom (don't remember). Just put a small screwdriver, butter knife in the slot & flip the cover up. The entire cover does not come off until you remove the bolt holding the belt. Also (72 at least) used a large TORX bolt (45-48?) to hold the belt in place. rick -- "Michael Ishee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: From: "Michael Ishee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Retractable seat belts Date: Sun, 07 Jul 2002 19:20:08 -0500 They are in a '69 Chevelle but the car originally had a bench seat so i dont know if these came with the bench or he put them in with the buckets. [Chevelle-List] Performer RPM intake problems
Just thought I'd share this to possibly save others grief. I put an new Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold on my 454 yesterday but not without having to modify it. After I gooped it up (front and back of block) with silicon sealer and set the manifold on I found the bolt holes wouldn't line up. Further inspection revealed that the manifold hit the casting flash on the heads at the bolts holes third back from front and rear ( the ones that stick up the furthest). I had to remove the manifold and file on the gasket side of the manifold near the top of the holes until the manifold would clear and set down in place. I don't know if head and block decking contributed to the problem or it was just the casting flash that caused the interference. (I have had two other manifolds on this motor and never ran into this problem.) Now I will always test fit a manifold and not assume it's going to fall into place. I also put on a Holley Avenger 770 carb, and MSD Pro billet distributor with a 6AL box, the pisser is I can't tell if it runs much better than with my old Q-Jet and ancient Holley Street Dominator intake. Also on the noise (howl) issue that came up recently with the Holley, mine has a different growl, not quit as loud as the Q-Jet. I hope I can get more out of this new set up or it looks like I dumped about a grand for nothing. Well back to the garage. Sorry to hear the misfortune of those in the flooding areas, hope everyone is O.K. We could sure use some of that water here in Colorado, we are burning up, literally. [Chevelle-List] tuning tips anyone?
Anyone care to share their tuning specs if they are using a Holley 770, Performer RPM intake and MSD distributor (on a big block)? So far I have tried 32 to 38 degrees total timing, left the blue bushing in the distributor and changed the springs to the light blue to get all advance in by 3000 RPM. Left the carb jetting stock (probably could lean it out some as I'm at 4800 ft.) Haven't seen much in the way in performance increases so far. Sir, I apologize to you for offending you, I was not trying to do that. I am, I'm told, a smart ass. I don't deny it, how could I, you've seen how I respond to many of the Chevelle e-mails! However, what you don't know about me is that even though I have strong religious convictions, I hold them close to my chest. I think these are very personal and I agree with you as to separation of Chevelle and Church; And State AND Parties And just about everything else; there is a time and place for everything! Foremost, I want you to understand that I respect your right to chose your life style whatever it may be; that is what this great Nation was founded on! However, I think you missed the underlining point; the respondent from ABC was bashing my religion which is something you of all people should abhor! Yes, I am a Christian, and I do not hate homosexuals. I don't hate anybody, it's my upbringing! I do, however, dislike homosexuals who try to push their lifestyle on me or my children, the liberal press that reports what suits their cause, those demigods in Washington who would have all vehicles 15 years or older crushed, and those funny looking guys in the Middle East who would have all of us killed if they could! You also need some jack stand or some wire to hold up the dash as you remove bolts. You can also have someone help you. As you remove bolts and get down to the last two or three, the dash will start dropping down and become very flimsy. [Chevelle-List] Dye Seat Belts
FYI I recently dyed the seat belts in my 71' Elky and they look like new. My method was a little different from the instructions. I used 2 bottles of RIT Liquid Dye as suggested for thick fabrics. Mixed in a cup of salt as suggested for color-fastness. I did not remove any hardware so after boiling I waited until the dye had cooled just enough so as not to melt the plastic. I left the belts in the dye overnight rather than the half-hour the instructions called for. The next day I washed and rinsed the belts in the sink using laundry detergent. This took several washings before rinse water was clear. I then hung them out in the sun to dry before reinstalling. They look great. Fortunately, my seatbelts were black. I wouldn't expect much success with matching other colors. For some reason the white tags hardly took the dye at all. They remained white and look as if they are slightly soiled rather than dyed. Hope this helps someone avoid buying expensive belts. RWG
