[Chevelle-List] 1-3/4" Super Comps
Well, I talked to Sallee-Chevrolet and asked about their recommendation for header size on a street application for the crate engine I'm looking at and to my surprise they actually recommended the 1-3/4" tube size. So I just wanted to past this on just as an FYI and thank whoever it was that recommended I ask the engine builder for their recommendation :) Seems like a "duh" thing, but since everyone else I talked to seemed to be against the 1-3/4" I almost just ruled them out by majority vote :) Rodney. 71 Chevelle El Mirage, AZ - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Chevelle-List] Just had a bad experience with D&R - Avoid!
I just sent this to D&R Classic Automotive: I just had an experience with D&R that turned me off of ever using your services, and I have started telling all my friends as well. Your web prices are out of date, and I would have been livid had I found out that you wanted me to pay 30% more for a part after I placed the order. Specifically, I wanted to buy an Original GM flywheel inspection cover for 11" bellhousing, Part Z20020. You have it listed at $15.95. With $2.39 shipping it was going to be $18.34 total. But, the fine print said that shipping was only an estimate, and I wanted to know the exact amount, and verify that you had stock. Turns out that you do have stock, but the price changed in July and it is now $19.95. In case you are not aware of it, it has been 107 days since July 1st. This is not a minor issue to me, even though to total dollar amount it. You Web site is your business, and I see this as nothing more than a simple bait and switch scheme. If I find that others have had this same experience, expect to hear from your local Attorney General. RE: [Chevelle-List] My 70 in a movie
I have rented cars for photo shoots and TV commercials plenty of times. The very idea that they are contacting the owners of the cars directly tells me that this is a low-budget production, which means that you have a higher risk of being screwed (e.g. the production company folds overnight and there's nobody to sue because it was a corporation, and the only phone number you have for them no longer works, and the contact name you have is a freelance production manager who has since moved on to the next job and can't be held personally responsible, etc. etc.). Any half-decent production company would have a copy of the NYPG (New York Producer's Guide) and would call companies or people who have their cars listed in the guide. How did they find you anyway? Are they just walking up to people in parking lots, or asking the crewmembers to ask their friends? It seems weird. Usually if you really want to rent your car out for films and photography you would want to find an agent, and that person would be responsible for negotiating the deal, including what can and can't be done with the car. For instance, you usually want to stipulate that the car has to picked up by flatbed going to and from the shoot (dont want to have an accident on the way to the job). And you can be specific about whether or not other people are allowed to drive, tow it, attach camera/lighting rigging to it, etc. and you still need somebody to babysit the shoot and make sure that those precepts are enforced. Usually the agent does that as well because presumably you have a job to go to. Anyway, if you guys really want to list your cars for this kind of stuff you really should deal with somebody who knows the ins and outs of it. I would actually really enjoy this kind of thing and would look into developing it if people are interested. As I mentioned earlier, I was already talking with Peter about putting together a network of cars that are available rather than just promoting his own cars (which are awesome). If any of you guys are seriously interested in making your cars available for film or photo shoots, drop me a line privately. John Nasta

Re: [Chevelle-List] Amp Guage
An amp meter measures flow of electricity .To work correctly the heavy "charge"wire from the alt. must be cut and the gauge installed in series. This means + post to alt. side of cut wire and -post to other end of cut wire.It is dangerous,if gauge burns or goes open, you are up the creek. That is why idiot lights and volt gauges have become the norm. Iam installing guages under the dash, water , oil and amp guages. Can you tell me where the amp guage hooks to. One side reads positive the other negative. Positive to ?? Negative to ?? Thanks.John
RE: [Chevelle-List] Amp Guage > Volt Meter
Title: Message I third the "trash the ammeter and get a voltmeter". I was at an electrical seminar at the NSRA Nats put on by a wise ole buzzard working for HayWire Electrical systems. This guy says he takes phone calls from guys all the time to give free advice on how to wire things on a hot rod. He impressed me. This guy said that an Ammeter is downright dangerous, but especially in a car with a higher output alternator. In theory, if wired right, you should be getting the full output of the alternator running through wires to your ammeter, and then back again to the rest of the circuits. If you have a 100 amp or greater alternator and you have a weak battery or a lot of current drawing accessories on and your alternator pegs out max current, that's a lot of juice flowing through them long wires (long wires = more resistance and resistance = heat= possibly burning the insulation off the wires = . ) and that meter. Just my two cents..but I am going for a voltmeter myself. Takes very little current. If you have the original wiring harness, trash it and get a new one! Insulation on the old wires was not so great to begin with and now it's old and probably brittle in places. Just my opinion..and the guy at Haywire's ;)...and apparently a few others. Re: [Chevelle-List] Amp Guage
John I just installed a set. One wire I attached to the horn relay. The other wire attached to the junction box located on the radiator support behind the battery. If your confused like I was, I might be able to take a photo and send. After hooking up I turned on the headlights to make sure that the needle dropped towards the minus sign. If not then reverse the wires. Also attach a fuse to the end of both wires. I think that I'm going to change mine later to a volt meter instead. Not impressed with the Amp gauge.
