[Chevelle-list] 1969 SS Grill emblem?

2003-08-06 Thread Thomas Newell
Hi...i was making a 1969 SS clone, i have all the emblems on but the
front grill.. i bought a SS396 emblem, i was wondering do i need to
drill out the holes on the center bar to mount this? when i bought the
car it did not have the bowtie emblem, should there have been holes to
mount that on my grill, or is that mounted different? also is the grill
on the SS a different color, then the Malibu? could some one please
help me out with this before i start drilling holes? thank's Tom

I'd love to have the link. You can send it
to me, consider this the "word" :) I need to order a new wiring
system. AAA! This mess is driving me crazy.
I've spent about 8 hours tracking wires, and running new ones. With all
the "great work" previous owners have done to my car, it's like trying to follow
one noodle through a huge bowl of spaghetti. As far as my car being in the
catalog, if it is my car, it should be considered false advertising. The
wiring in my car right now is a disaster.

Dynomat is good, but it's expensive. I'm not sure that this would work, but
it seems like an idea - How about the stuff that is used for lining truck
beds? I think that would knock down noise, and would make for a good
weather sealant. You can also buy it in cans and apply it yourself even
cheaper. Just a suggestion. Has anyone tried this?

RE: [Chevelle-list] Electrically Charged

2003-08-06 Thread Matthew Post

Hey Sarge, I've been there. Trust me, go with a new harness and
save yourself a lot of headache. I couldn't track down a short in
my '69 for the longest time, so I finally broke down and spent the money
on the new harness. An hour later my car was up and running
again. If money is a concern, start with the engine harness.
If that doesn't work, then get the forward light harness. That
would cover all the wires under the hood. The dash harness is a bit
more expensive, so do that last if you even need to.

I put the Baer 13" Track discs on the front of my 67 and did
not have to change spindles. I was going to use 17" wheels anyway and
the 13's seem like the way to go. Kit came with everything except the
adjustable proportioning valve which I bought separate.

I talked to the Baer rep at CB this year about putting rear
discs on and he said that with 13's on the front, unless I wanted matching
rears for esthetic reasons, they really wouldn't justify the cost for the
minimal additional stopping power. Maybe with lesser 11" or 12"
systems it might be worth it. Just his opinion...

  I have a more non-politically violatile question:

  - What is the best front disc brake kit out on the market ? Baer
  ?

Also, I have seen kits that use the original drum brake set up on 67

My current set up is four non-power drum brakes which does not cut
  it.

  Suggestions appreciated.

P.S. Would you also use rear disc brakes or is that not necessary

I'd been thinking about that old string the other day. As far as looking
for driving tunes, I found an oldie, (before my time, but I like the song.
It's beach Boys style, but it's not the Beach Boys. The songs about an
SS396. In fact that may even be the name of it. I got it off the internet,
and burned it to a CD. If anyone is interested, I found it on i-Mesh. Also
the song Chrome, I believe it's by Toby Keith is a great Chevelle tune. The
song starts out about a Chevelle. That one's Country. Just a couple for
ya'll to add to the Cruzin list.

What I have found that works good and not real expensive as opposed to
aftermarket houses is ice dam felt for roofing. It is thick and self
sticking, and your local Home Depot will carry it.
