RE: [Chevelle-list] A big thanks

2004-02-20 Thread Dale McIntosh

Nice choice on the ARE Outlaw I.  I've had a set (15x8
& 15x7) for probably 8 years or so.  First on my 67 SS then moved 'em
to my 67 Elky - see dalesplace.com below.  The really nice thing I
like about most of the ARE line is they are clear-coated...never have to
"polish" them.  Clean 'em, rinse 'em off, you're done.  The downside
is the limited sizes available and no special order offsets.  If you don't
go wild with tires, they're no problem at all.  I've seen a number of 66's
with 15x8 on all four corners with 235x60's and they really look nice.
Check this one out: http://www.okchevelle.org/memberscars/johnston.htm

There are literally hundred's of different wheels out
there.  Go with your heart for what you think'll look good on your
particular car.

i had the same problem, ended up going with a chrome aftermarket dipstick,
has the bracket to bolt it to the exhaust, and if you dont like the chrome just
scuff it up a bit with some fine sandpaper and paint it to match.

Small blocks do not have the same little bracket extending off them to bolt it to the manifold that the big blocks have.  The only way to do it is to enlarge the hole a bit.  I have the same problem with the one in the 350 that is in my 86 Cutlass.  I just never pay any mind to it.

I think you really have to have the tube fastened to something, like a
manifold bolt, to keep from having troubles with a wobbly tube or leaking.
Mine just did not feel right until I welded the mounting tang back on and
bolted it down.

I had that problem once. I removed the tube and enlarged the end that goes
in the block with a series of center punches. It doesn't take much.

Jim,
Mine is the stock dipstick on my 325/396, it should
have a tab that one of your exhaust manifold bolts
goes through and hold it in place.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Header removal

2004-02-20 Thread Dwayne & Carla Fleury

You might want to try a rotary tool to cut off
those headers
I have a dremel tool and its one of the best tools
in the box
use some of the high speed cutting disk it will
take a few of them but it will do the job'

Believe me I have thought that many times, but I
don't have a cutting torch available.  I guess I could rent
  one.

Maybe you should cut them up to get them off, if they are old
crap?  Perhaps your new headers are a different shape and might slide
in?  Just an idea.  Don't kill yourself trying to get aftermarket
cheap crap headers off!

Tried removing the old filter and still no
luck.  It appears that it may come out from the bottom the
best.  The clutch linkage is the only thing I can see holding it
back.  I am def. not a pro with anything to do with clutches so is
there anything I should look out for taking the linkage apart.  You
are right, I do NOT want to have to take the head off.  They are some
kind of aftermarket cheap crap header, two of the four pipes were smashed
about half closed so I have some Hooker's in the box waiting to go on it.

  I have a 69 4spd big block and I am having a
rough time getting the driver's side header off.  The passenger side
came out from the bottom, but the driver's side hits the clutch, steering,
etc. so, unbolted motor and moved steering column out of way and it still
will not come out the top.  Any secrets I am missing?
