The 'pressure' water line runs from the intake to the heater box (5/8" hose)
and the return line (3/4" hose) runs to the water pump.

Ron, I just remembered something... About a year and half ago, when I first
got the Elky on the road, the heater hose going to the intake blew off.
Coolant was coming out of that hose like I was trying to water the lawn, but
none was coming out of the intake (compared to the hose). That leads me to
believe what I said below (which hose is supply and which is return) is
correct.

I could be wrong, but I think the hose coming out of the pump is the
"supply" line to the heater core. The other hose returns it to the intake
where it goes back to the radiator along with the rest of the coolant. I
would assume if your cooling system is in the stock configuration with an
unaltered thermostat, then yes I'd say the by-pass should be functioning.
However, if you drill three holes in your thermostat, these holes will
provide the by-pass function and you can remove the little hose.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed my site Ron. I just wish I could provide more

I guess my concerns were that both lines can't push coolant into the heater
core, but since you've got it working that must not be an issue. After
looking mine over again, one goes in the pump, one in the intake, and the
short one. So the big difference is the by-pass. I take it that it is
necessary to have with a "normal" setup?

Hi Ron,

I have a short w/p. My understanding with the little hose from the pump to
the intake is that it's just a by-pass. When I bought my Stewart pump they
also sold me a modified thermostat, basically they drilled some holes in it.
Because of the holes, the little hose was no longer needed. These days I'm
using a restrictor disc in place of a thermostat so the little hose still
isn't needed.

Yes the passenger side of the pump has a heater hose, it's easy to see on
the engine details page. I don't know for sure if the way I have the heater
hoses routed is the "correct" way, but the heat works and the engine stays
cool.

Try
spraying some carb cleaner, or starting fluid around the base of the carb (not
too much as to set it on fire).  If you have an airleak under the carb, the
engine will begin to race, and you need to tighten the carb, or change the
gasket.  If this is not your problem, check your vacuum
connections.

little pieces with duck tape keeping it held together.  It had factory cut
outs for my rear defroster and it looked pretty damn worn so I am guessing it
was original.  Anyone know what it is called and where I might be able to lay
my hands on one?  I don’t see it on OPGI’s site and I would
hate to do all this work and not put anything back there.  Maybe I will
have to cut out some jute and glue it to the trunk divider…

Thanks,

A critical factor in the health and behavior of your (non 4l60e)
transmission is the TV cable adjustment. This is an EXCELLENT page
describing the adjustment and behavior of that cable:

The number (986545) isn't a Chevelle number but it fits between the numbers for 1966. Chevelle (986529-AM/FM pushbutton radio)& (986644 -FM Multiplex (MPX) Adapter).
