[Chevelle-list] Baby on the Way

2004-10-05 Thread steve502
Hello everyone,
I haven't contributed to the list for a while because my wife and I are getting ready
to have our first baby. I want to continue a family tradition my dad inadvertently
started. My first ride from the hospital was in a red 66 Chevelle SS396. I want to
continue this tradition by bringing my wife and son home from the hospital in my red
70 Chevelle SS454. I was wondering if anyone has ever installed the latch-lock system
in their cars for the new-style car seats. Does anyone know where I can purchase a
latch system that would fit without major modifications? I know a welder who could
make the hoods and bolt them to the body behind the seat if necessary, but I would
rather find a set that fits and bolt them in without any permanent welding.
Does anyone have any experience in this arena? I doubt I'm the first guy to try this
endeavor.
Thanks,
Steve in AZ

I found they just fit. I would pull it and put it back in later. It also
depends how much space you want. I also found out about tall valve covers
and power break units. Close also.

Does anyone have a 68 or 69 with a big block AND have an HEI Distributor
with a stock firewall?

I have the body off the frame and have an HEI distributor in, but if
it's not going to fit when the body comes down I'd rather know it now so
I can do something about it while it's easier.

Title: Message

Hard to say for
sure.  They have been at the "track" setting for about five years
now!  I'm sure the ride would be less jarring as the front is at full stiff
and the rear at average.  For street, I would drop the front to mid and the
rear to full soft.  I also have pretty stiff front springs, which make the
ride relatively harsh.  With the setup as is, I could tell the difference
in sidewall stiffness between the BFG R1 tires and my BFG street
tires.

I
have adjustable Koni shocks on my Chevelle, and Bilstein on my
Corvette.  Both are great.  I was not all that happy with the KYBs
I had on the Chevelle, and I really did not like the Monroes on my
Corvette.  Both KYB and Monroes wore out and had to be replaced with
far less miles than I would ever expect (easily less than 20,000, maybe
10,000 for the Monroes).  The Edlbrock IAS shocks have a good
reputation as well.  Even though you have a cruiser, I would still
look at a "performance" shock as opposed to a cheap
anything.
Adjustable shocks are not even close to cheap, and they let you tune
the ride to your needs.  If you get them, it is a lot easier when they
are externally adjustable.  I have to remove the Konis to adjust
them, so you can guess how often I do that!
For a
cruiser with a real budget, I'd go for a Bilstein, Edelbrock, or similar
"good" shock and skip the fancy adjustables.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Car Hauler as a moving trailer?

2004-10-05 Thread Brian Knight
Steve, I have hauled a lot on these trailers, including my Chevelle. One
word of warning, though, I went from KY where I live, to ME to get my
Chevelle. In KY, you do not need a license or registration on a trailer
without a commercial name on it. In CT, you do. It cost me $150 to the state
police because I had no proof of ownership (reg.) for the trailer. The
trooper stopped me because he could not see a license on the trailer, no
speeding or anything. Any way, he said if I had at least a written paper
saying the trailer was mine, he would not have written the ticket.
Also, from using this type of trailer at work, I have learned you must be
carefull to put more load over/in front of the axles. If not, it will tend
to lift the rear of your truck at higher speeds, creating an obviously
dangerous situation.

  Good luck,
   Brian '71 Malibu

Guys,
Ever use a car hauler (open) for moving things? I have a new job
in another state and need to move myself as they aren't paying for the
move.
Being the cheap SOB that I am, I was wondering if I bought a car hauler

Anyone put side rails on theirs?

I
should correct that by saying that most of the
large panels they offer come from DII. Goodmark also sells lots of patch panels
and DII doesn't make any if those.

Bad news is that one of the manufacturers
of patch panels seems to have gone out of business. The company came under new
ownership earlier this year and lately their fax machine doesn't pick up and
their telephone message says that the mailbox is full and can’t take any more
messages. Bummer.

There are only 2 companies making the large panels,
and those are DII and Goodmark. It's a common misconception that Goodmark makes
everything they sell, but actually most of the sheet metal they offer comes
from DII. They only make a small percentage of what they sell.

Get the 24'. It makes positioning for balance, your car or any other you
