[Chevelle-list] Baby on the Way
Hello everyone, I haven't contributed to the list for a while because my wife and I are getting ready to have our first baby. I want to continue a family tradition my dad inadvertently started. My first ride from the hospital was in a red 66 Chevelle SS396. I want to continue this tradition by bringing my wife and son home from the hospital in my red 70 Chevelle SS454. I was wondering if anyone has ever installed the latch-lock system in their cars for the new-style car seats. Does anyone know where I can purchase a latch system that would fit without major modifications? I know a welder who could make the hoods and bolt them to the body behind the seat if necessary, but I would rather find a set that fits and bolt them in without any permanent welding. Does anyone have any experience in this arena? I doubt I'm the first guy to try this endeavor. Thanks, Steve in AZ
Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 HEI Big Block fit?
i would remove the distributor before droping the body down , it will avoid hitting the firewall
Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 HEI Big Block fit?
hey steve i installed a 75 454 in a 69 chevelle , i used the stock cap i had no problems, jim
Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 HEI Big Block fit?
I found they just fit. I would pull it and put it back in later. It also depends how much space you want. I also found out about tall valve covers and power break units. Close also. - Original Message - From: "Cecil Martin" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "The Chevelle Mailing List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, October 05, 2004 11:37 PM Subject: [Chevelle-list] 69 HEI Big Block fit? > Does anyone have a 68 or 69 with a big block AND have an HEI Distributor > with a stock firewall? > > I have the body off the frame and have an HEI distributor in, but if > it's not going to fit when the body comes down I'd rather know it now so > I can do something about it while it's easier. > > Thanks! >Steve > >
[Chevelle-list] 69 HEI Big Block fit?
Does anyone have a 68 or 69 with a big block AND have an HEI Distributor with a stock firewall? I have the body off the frame and have an HEI distributor in, but if it's not going to fit when the body comes down I'd rather know it now so I can do something about it while it's easier. Thanks! Steve
RE: [Chevelle-list] mirror and shocks
Title: Message Hard to say for sure. They have been at the "track" setting for about five years now! I'm sure the ride would be less jarring as the front is at full stiff and the rear at average. For street, I would drop the front to mid and the rear to full soft. I also have pretty stiff front springs, which make the ride relatively harsh. With the setup as is, I could tell the difference in sidewall stiffness between the BFG R1 tires and my BFG street tires. -Brad- -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dave StudlySent: Tuesday, October 05, 2004 8:12 AMTo: The Chevelle Mailing ListSubject: RE: [Chevelle-list] mirror and shocks Hey Brad, just how much difference is there in true seats-of-the-pants feel when you adjust the Konis? Both are great. I was not all that happy with the KYBs I had on the Chevelle, and I really did not like the Monroes on my Corvette. Both KYB and Monroes wore out and had to be replaced with far less miles than I would ever expect (easily less than 20,000, maybe 10,000 for the Monroes). The Edlbrock IAS shocks have a good reputation as well. Even though you have a cruiser, I would still look at a "performance" shock as opposed to a cheap anything. Adjustable shocks are not even close to cheap, and they let you tune the ride to your needs. If you get them, it is a lot easier when they are externally adjustable. I have to remove the Konis to adjust them, so you can guess how often I do that! For a cruiser with a real budget, I'd go for a Bilstein, Edelbrock, or similar "good" shock and skip the fancy adjustables. I've got a 69 Chevelle Malibu and the rear view mirror glass has deteriorated. You know, the shiny mirror backing on the glass has "decayed". Can I replace just the glass mirror part without having to buy a whole new rear view unit? Second question is about shocks. My Chevelle is a stock 307 and it needs new shocks. Does anyone have a favorite brand and model of replacement shocks? The price isn't so much of an issue and I'd like to upgrade a bit from "factory" shocks. I don't want a super stiff harsh ride. RE: [Chevelle-list] Car Hauler as a moving trailer?
Steve, I have hauled a lot on these trailers, including my Chevelle. One word of warning, though, I went from KY where I live, to ME to get my Chevelle. In KY, you do not need a license or registration on a trailer without a commercial name on it. In CT, you do. It cost me $150 to the state police because I had no proof of ownership (reg.) for the trailer. The trooper stopped me because he could not see a license on the trailer, no speeding or anything. Any way, he said if I had at least a written paper saying the trailer was mine, he would not have written the ticket. Also, from using this type of trailer at work, I have learned you must be carefull to put more load over/in front of the axles. If not, it will tend to lift the rear of your truck at higher speeds, creating an obviously dangerous situation. Being the cheap SOB that I am, I was wondering if I bought a car hauler trailer, if I could use it to move boxes, appliances, and furniture? Anyone put side rails on theirs? I have used my Open car trailer for all kinds of stuff.. Moved many a person with it.. I have a FULL deck and side pockets/ I have a set of wooden side rails that I made to fit. Take you time planning the pack and have plenty of tie downs and as long as there is no RAIN you will be A-OK. I am interested to see if they have theirs out and at what price, and if they really did stamp their own like they said they would or if they are selling the DII panels. Re: [Chevelle-list] Car Hauler Length
Get the 24'. It makes positioning for balance, your car or any other you might be hauling, much easier. It will also give you extra room in front and back for tools, parts, etc. Also consider using a load level bar set up, makes a big difference for better weight distribution, level ride and better handing. Re: [Chevelle-list] Car Hauler as a moving trailer?
I've moved and have helped others move with an open trailer. We built side walls a few feet up. Plan carefully and bind everything down. Keep in mind that the pieces on the trailer will try to rub each other. Use plenty of blankets and be carefull. How far is the trip?
