Hi Folks,

Installing my new Z-bar and Speed-Direct clutch linkage, but I don't have any
thing to reference against when I read the instructions .. meaning the previous
owner of my SS took all this out.  And now I have everything but not sure how
it all goes back in.

Unfortunately I can't find my chevelle assembly manual nor do have any
pictures - does any one have any snap shots of how their Zbar and clutch
linkage in the car?  Particularly 66-67 SS, 4 speed floor - but I guess
anything would be a start to look at.

TIA,

[Chevelle-list] [OT] Today Show set

2004-11-07 Thread John Nasta
Just an FYI. A set that I built will be appearing tomorrow (Monday) morning
at 8:45 EST on The Today Show with Katie Couric and guest Jim Miller (author
of Savvy Senior). I just got back from there and it looks like it's supposed
to. Jim was there, Katie was not.

I will be putting pictures up later of it on my

2004-11-07 Thread Mike Holleman

Randy, The restoration guide says " The upper portion should
be painted in 0 degree gloss and the lower portion in 30 degree gloss."
The paint color codes they list are in Dupont, 30 degree is 99L and 0
degree is 4428L. In Ditzler it's 9000 for 30 and 9317 for 0.  Your auto
paint store should be able to match one of these codes. Hope this
helps.

  Since the list is on
interior paints and such, I thought I would wade in with a question.

I have a 1968 SS El Camino with a black
interior. I used SEM Trim Black for the exterior grill, grill extensions etc,
which matched perfectly to the original finish,  but in comparing that
to the existing black interior finish there is definitely a difference in
the gloss. I need to paint the steering column, glove box door and surrounding
area as well as behind the seats. Does anyone know the correct finish IE.
  satin, semi gloss, flat etc?

  Any help would be great.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Dash board paint....

2004-11-07 Thread Mike Holleman

John, Powder coat process requires heat. That is not an option
on a dash unless you plan on removing it from the car. Strip it to bare metal,
apply a good self etching primer and paint with a good quality paint such as a
urethane. Unless you want a high gloss you will have to flatten the paint with a
ftattening agent. Your dash was 60 percent gloss originally. Your local auto
paint store can mix what you need.

Re: [Chevelle-list] paint stripping

2004-11-07 Thread Trooper
It depends on what you mean by chemical stripping. If you mean dipping the
body, I would recommend against it. With dipping you need to have the shell
absolutely bare. This will take all protective coating from areas you will
never be able to coat w/o E-coating that will start to rust immediately. The
worst thing about dipping is, if you have thin metal or much rust you will
have nothing when they are finished. The only way I would recommend dipping
is if you are going to have the body E-coated after. This will seal all
there areas mentioned earlier. If your talking about manual chemical
stripping, it is messy but you can do a great job on flat surfaces. It is
difficult to get areas in the door jambs and under side of trunk and hood
but can be done. Advantage is you can do it yourself.
Bead blasting will do a great job removing old paint. If you have a lot of
rust it will blow through these areas. You must paint immediately after
blasting to prevent flash rust. Again blasting will remove paint in areas
that can be difficult to cover w/ paint again but if you're very diligent
about it you should be able to coat all the surfaces. Hard spots are under
the hood and trunk. With blasting you will need to clean and clean and clean
after blasting and then clean again or you will blow out dust when you paint
and it will ruin your finish. If you leave the interior in, it will be a
bear to clean
In my opinion, of the three methods mentioned, bead blasting does the best
job if:
You have the time to prime immediately.
You have a place that can do it for you.
You clean, clean, clean after blasting and before painting.
You strip everything on the exterior so they can do a good job.
