I have a 69 Yenko chevelle CLONE, that currently has a 10 bolt open in it.
I would like to upgrade to a 12 bolt, but I have been out of the chevy hobby

give me a range that's a fair price? I'm in N. Calif. Is there anyone out

To really bench test a starter you need to hook it up
to a contraption that has a flywheel and lets you put a load on it. Just seeing
if the gear shoots out and spins doesn’t prove whether or not it will
work under a load.

Testing a Starter

I tried
bench testing the starter out of my 69 and got nothing, wanted to see if you
all think I did it right.

There
are three terminals, hooked the positive side of the battery up to the big one
in the middle.  Hooked the negative side to the frame of the
starter.  Then with my tester, to watch voltage, I put one end on the big
terminal and one end on one of the smaller terminals.  Zip.  Did it
again with the other terminal, zip.  I know it was getting juice because I
got voltage readings on that first smaller terminal.  Sound like the
starter is fried?

Thanks,

JB

I used the Tru-Max insulator mat. I got it from Summit PN
TRU-BLIP11406. It's not as heavy or as expensive as the Dynamat, but it
made a very noticeable difference in the amount of heat & noise coming into
the car. I used 1 sheet (4 x 6 ft) under the carpet from the firewall to
under the front seat. It's a cheaper and lighter alternative.

Try a search for Allen Grove brackets. He has a web site and makes

Scott is giving us very good advice. Something else to avoid is the "tar &

stuff will melt & run, making for a stinky mess.

Definately dynamat. I used several, several hundred dollars of it a few
years ago in a comp audio car that I built when I was playing with that
hobby. Use enough on the floor, ceiling, doors, rear deck, truck, over
wheel wells, anywhere and the car will be a tomb with minimal rattles. I
used it 3 and 4 layers thick in some high resonance areas. But it do get
expensive. I also put house insulation ( the pink stuff ) in areas that I
could not get to any other way but shoving in a hole. Under the rear seat

Re: [Chevelle-list] Build sheet for 69 Chevelle SS

2005-04-21 Thread Rick Schaefer
IF it was built or sold in Canada you can get a list (not a build
sheet) of accessories as it left the factory. The seventh digit in
your VIN will be a 1 IF it was built at the Ontario Canada plant. If
it is a Canadian built Chevelle, GM of Canada can provide the list
for , about $35-40.00 I'm not sure how to tell if it was built in
the US & sold in Canada.

Thanks RickI hope they are the answer. I have called so many places, and
there is one system that mounts the alternator and the compressor up pretty
highIT looks kind of stupid to me. March had no answer, but Alan Grove
Comp. might have one solution...I'll call them now!!

Has anyone noticed all the, for sale Chevelle's coming out of Pineville,
Louisiana? What's the story??

Exactly, I bought it but have not yet installed as I
want to finish the headliner.a The FATMAT product I
got my on EBAY at 1 dollar per square foot and it's a
.080 Butyl aluminum clad product that has a sticky
side to it. My friend was kind enough to let me use
his heat gun, so in the near future I should be
installing it. Dynamat is terribly expensive.

I have the interior of my 71 gutted including dash removal, time to start
putting it back together. Looking for info on what I can use to replace the
original soundproofing (tar paper and padding) saw some nice shiny
(aluminum) backed stuff being used on one of the Car shows the other night.
Looking to limit that road noise sound. Does any one have a recommendation
or should I just go with the new stuff listed in many of the after market
catalogues. I have some stiff poly foam (packing type material) that I was
planning on using under the dash, got some 3m Glue the other day any word on
that idea good or bad. It looks like it would be better then the stuff that
was crumbling apart when I removed the dash that looked like some kind of
fiber board gone bad.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Bench Testing a Starter

2005-04-21 Thread John Nasta

To really
bench test a starter you need to hook it up to a contraption that has a
flywheel and lets you put a load on it. Just seeing if the gear shoots out and
spins doesn’t prove whether or not it will work under a load.

Thanks,

JB

2005-04-21 Thread Dave Studly
There's not many places it can go. Are you sure it isn't leaking? Check
the trans cooler lines. Also, open up the radiator. It's possible for it
to leak into the radiator, which would be bad.

I have an 89 Buick LeSabre automatic trans on a 3.8L V6.
It does not leak but consumes transmission fluid pretty quick. Where is
this fluid going and what is potentially wrong?

I appreciate any help you may provide.

Try a search for Allen Grove brackets. He has a web site and makes
a wide variety of brackets for many different combos. I'm not sure of
the spelling, it may be Alan Grove.
OOPS - Just read your last line.Go to the web site and he has
pictures of the various combos, you may see one that works.

[Chevelle-list] Bracket for AC

2005-04-21 Thread Dan Mascheck
I have a 72 Chevelle 454. I just installed a 150 amp Powermaster alt. I have
a high flow Meizere electric water pump. A BDS 8-71 blower. Power steering,
and plan on adding a Sanden SD-7HD compressor to my car to upgrade my AC.

The problem is...finding a bracket to mount the Compressor. I have the alt
mounted low on the passenger side. The power steering is on the driver side
low. The pulley on the blower has three grooves, but finding a bracket that
will mount the unit high on the left or right is becoming difficult. I'd
like something that would bolt on the heads! Most units use or need the
standard water pump.

Any leads would be appreciated. I have talked to March comp. with no
success. I'll try giving Allen Grove Comp. a call today!
