[Chevelle-list] 69 Camaro Convertible Body Shells Now Available!

2005-06-17 Thread AutoObsessn
Hey Everyone,
After conquering the licensing battles, the completely assembled 69 Convertible
Body Shells are available for distribution. They are the body from firewall to
tail panel. Just like the lead car on this years Power Tour!
We also now offer Electric-Life's reverse hood opening kit. These two would
make a sweet combination!
For more info on both products, check out our website.
Sincerely,
Trevor

Let me add that I've had two 64's where the inside box was held to fire wall
with pal nuts, then the outer box put on with a second set of nuts.
So when you remove the nuts from firewall side the box inside is still attached
by the nuts underneath which you didn't know were there mostly because the
gasket is swelled from years of oil getting onto it.
Brute force becomes tempting until you realize what had been done
(at factory I assume. A dirty trick? or just a short cut?)
Now my memory fails me but I think I had to loosen inner fender to get all nuts
off of firewall side box.

  Clint,
The reason I wanted to use this bracket is because I already have the
long water pump on my 66 and wanted to keep the alternator on the passenger
side (utilizing the factory passenger side alternator bracket for long pump).
I know a lot of people are running the short pump.
Also I was conserned about hood clearance and I'm running headers.
Just thought I may be able to keep my pulley setup the way it is, only
have to purchase 1 bracket and not worry about the hood clearances.

Re: [Chevelle-list] 65 Heater Removal

2005-06-17 Thread Krister Meister

Don't dread it - replaced the core and box on my '66 and wasn't that bad.
Drain antifreeze, disconnect hoses yadha yadha and put duct tape on heater
core ends to prevent drips. Discount the heater louver cables first.
Remember their routing and placement as they spring straight when removed -
also a good time to lubricate them. The original nuts used on the heater
box studs that bolt to the firewall are "pal" type and aren't as durable
with a wrench as a regular nut. Clean the old paint / crud away and put
some penetrating oil on each stud. Work the nuts off back and forth. The
lower right corner is in a tight spot but still accessible with a box
wrench. Once all the nuts are off, the heater box (with heater core
inside) pulls straight off the fire wall into the car. You may need a new
firewall seal depending on its condition. I had a problem with the
aftermarket heater core being slightly thicker than the original Harrison
thus the original holding clips were useless. Ended up using foam weather
striping on the heater box were the core makes contact with the box and
used a blop of silicone on all ends to keep it in place yet allowed for
some vibration.

Hope it helps,

Krister

My heater core leaks.  Any secrets out there to make this job easier?
Does the inner fender well need to come off?  No AC.  Dreading this job.

2005-06-17 Thread Dave Studly

Larry,  I don’t know how much
different the job is on a 70 versus a 65, but it can be a pain in the rear.
When I did mine, I had the engine out so it was a little easier, but still not
a walk in the park.  It’s really just 2 or 3 bolts/nuts that are a real
pain (the ones tucked under the passenger side fender).  Make sure you have
some warble (worble? Wobble?) extensions for your sockets.

I didn’t have to remove the inner
fender, but I did take out several bolts so that I could move it a little bit.

It’s not much of a help, but..

Auto Air Group Purchase

My partner and I are offering the "Perfect
Fit" A/C system from Classic Auto Air for $995 thru July 31st. That is a
$100 discount from the factory pricing. We'll need a minimum of 10 orders for
the discounted pricing.

If you are not familiar with Classic Air check out the systems at www.classicautoair.com

Classic systems are designed specifically for each model and year and is the
only supplier to offer a kit to fit 70 -72. All of the systems utilize the
factory heater controls to control the A/C and Heat functions and the system
has a true dehumidified defrost cycle. There are some other significant
advantages to the Classic system. First is the fact that other vendors only
have one coil under the dash. That coil is split and part is used for cooling
and the rest is for the heater, maybe 2/3's cool and 1/3 heat. The result is
less cooling capacity because there is less surface area to do the heat
transfer. This will be particularly noticeable in a car as big as the Chevelle,
probably wouldn't notice in a 2 seat street rod. Classic uses a separate coil
for each function, like the OEM setups. The higher surface area allows more air
to be cooled to a lower temperature much faster. The result is being able to
cool the inside of a larger car much quicker and handle the cooling chores
better on those 95 degree days. The other issue with the single coil is the
possibility of freezing up the heater, cracking the coil and leaking antifreeze
into the interior. The farther South you go the less need to run higher ratios
of antifreeze as the chance of really cold weather is slim compared to the
North, combine that with a low refrigerant charge and the evaporator will
freeze up, breaking the heater core. Then to add insult to injury, many of the
suitcase's are sealed and can't be serviced. It will have to be sent back to
the factory or just totally replaced if out of warranty. The suitcase that
Classic builds can be disassembled and serviced if need be, for the price of
the O ring that seals the two halves together. Classic uses an extruded nylon
shaft for all of the damper and air doors in the suitcase used to direct the
air flow. Others use plastic doors with a steel wire shaft, these have a
tendency to rust and stick after 5 or 6 years, and because the case is sealed,
they can't be fixed.
Under Dash Unit
Engine
Compartment
The "Perfect Fit" system comes with everything (nuts, bolts, screws,
ducting, dash bezels, firewall block off plates, wire harness, suitcase,
compressor, compressor bracket, evaporator, drier, hoses, even rubber grommets
for the radiator support). One other nice touch is the supplied adapters to
hook up the defroster duct to the suitcase, other suppliers leave that up to
you to figure out. The only thing you supply is the freon, drive belt and crank
pulley.

If your planning on keeping your car for a number of years and really want an
AC system that works better than the factory unit and provides 20 - 30% more
cooling capacity than many of the other vendors, the Classic system is by far
the better choice.

Classic makes kits for all years of Chevelle, Camaro, Nova, Impala, Corvette ,
Tri-Fives and trucks as well as older Mustangs and Mopars. These kits were
designed for non-A/C cars, but are now available for some original A/C cars.

Let me know if your interested. It usually takes about two weeks to put all the
components together and ship and there are some optional items like polished
compressors and driers. Just ask!
