Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
I'm running a Motive Gear ring & pinion in my 69. Factory GM would be nice,if you can find them. Careful set-up is more important than brand,IMO. Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
Jim, I am running US Gears in the rear in my 70. They are a little bit noisy, but that is common with those gears. If you want it to be quiet, I would go with a set of Richmond Gears. You can get them from Jeg's for less than $200. Tom

Dan, I have a Flaming River polished tilt column in my 64 Tempest. I am completely satisfied with it in everyway. The tilt locks very positive, it has a great feel and looks good. Herb probably just torn his up. He is kinda rough on equipment. Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
Actually, the spider gears can allow both tires to rotate. If it's a positraction, both wheels will rotate in the same direction. If it's not, then one wheel will rotate clockwise, the other wheel will rotate counterclockwise. Re: [Chevelle-list] ID rear end gears WAS: 3.73 gear question
Tequila, This page has a picture that shows the code location, except the arrow should point to the FRONT side of the passenger side axle housing. You will probably need a rag, degreaser, wire brush & good lighting to find the code. It is stamped into the axle housing, letters are only 3/16 inch tall. http://www.chevelles.com/years/70/70rearcodes.html If you don't have a 70, you can find codes for other years here: http://www.chevelles.com/years/ On 11/19/05, [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: on the outside of the housing there are numbers read off those numbers and you can buy a numbers book or i have one and that's how ya tell if it is orig. -- Rick Schaefer72 TPI El Camino
Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
Thanks but I think you misunderstood my question- I was just wondering what brand of gears people on this list prefer- ie Richmond, factory GM, etc. I don't really need any part #s right now. Re: [Chevelle-list] 3.73 gear question
To tell if it's posi, jack up the back of the car so both wheels are off the ground- Spin one and see what the other one does. If it doesn't move when you're spinning yours, it's not a posi. As for the gears, you'll have to pull the cover to really know for sure. Some say you can count the # of wheel revolutions in conjunction with the # of yoke revolutions, but it's not always accurate.
