BFG says 20 psi is the Minimum - I will try that on the next trip. One of the amazing cars I raced a couple of time was a newish turbo Porsche. Not sure what the model was but the car was running the 10s. Wow! The owner said the car was supposed to make 800 hp (BS?) but wasn't running right. Is anyone familar with those cars? Larry Clint Hooper wrote: Ouch, 2.13's with drag radials? Drop the pressure down to around 20psi and try some different burnout times. With some more practice, you should be able to get those short times down in the high 1.80's-low 1.90's. That will put you solidly in the 12's. Not running right and still runs 10's?!?!?! 800 hp? That's doable with mods but NOT from the factory. I just read an article in the Dec. issue of Road Track about the 650 hp Ruf Porsche Rt 12 (Porsche 911 Turbo) which ran an 11 flat at 133.9 mph. Given that, I would have to assume the Porsche you ran against had at least 650 hp and if it was running bad like the owner said, 800 probably isn't a stretch. Put a big enough turbo or turbos on any engine and you can get 800 hp. 4 banger Mitsubishi AWD cars running 10's seems to be a common occurance nowadays. Yeah,I wish I had those kinds of problems. Am beginning to think a turbo is the way to go on my car's 355. It probably wouldn't cost any more than a new 383 crate motor and would be a heckuva lot faster. [Chevelle-list] Best 66 cowl hood?
After several atempts to locate a decent factory hood for my 66 I'm thinking of going with a cowl hood. Can anyone recomend a good manufacture of a cowl hood for a 66 chevelle? I have read in the past that the goodmarks don't fit well. (true??) thanks for any help on thisDan
Re: [Chevelle-list] Best 66 cowl hood?
Metal or fiberglass? If metal,Goodmark isn't that bad as I've seen some pretty decent hoods from them. If you're looking at fiberglass,VFN or Glasstek make pretty good stuff. Anyone know if Harwood builds a glass 66 cowl hood? Their backside finish is very nice. While I'm pulling out my original rear, I thought new U-joints would probably be a good move as well. Is this something I could do on my own with the right variety of tools? RE: [Chevelle-list] Best 66 cowl hood?
I also have a hood from Unlimited, but unlike Jim, I wish I'd never bought mine. However, thanks to the Cobbler's Shop and 40+ hours of their labor, the Unlimited hood fits and looks great. Knowing what I know now, if I were to do it over I'd get the hood from Goodmark because I'm sure it wouldn't have needed as much labor to fit and look as good or better then the one I have.
