Dan if you haven't already gotten a taker on the old spindles and any other
parts of the front disc brakes I would be glad to get them. They will work
on 64's as well. John

I'm upgrading my 72 with Wilwood disk brakes. I will be removing the old
spindles and front stock disc brakes. If you want them, there up for
grabs,

you pay the freight.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Front Disc Brakes

2006-02-01 Thread Brad Waller
I feel your pain. Years ago I broke off a bolt head when doing the brakes
on my Corvette. Luckily I was able to get the other bolt out and then the
caliper off. With lots of broken bolt showing, I was able to get the old
one out. I then chased the threads at all four corners and made sure I had
clean bolts (some were rusty).

I've had worse. Part of the parking brake broke off on the Corvette. This
does not sound bad until you realize that the parking brake is a drum inside
the rear rotor. This part rolled around until it locked the rear wheel
assembly and broke at least one stud holding it to the trailing arm. This
was a few days before leaving on a Corvette drive, and no shop could take
the car in time. So I had to learn rear trailing arm and suspension stuff
and do it all myself. I think I missed a day or two or work to get it done
in time!

I just wanted to let everyone know that when you're replacing rotors and the
old passenger side caliper bolts strip and the drivers sides bolt heads snap
off it makes for a long night in the garage.

[Chevelle-list] Looking for my old '68 ss

2006-02-01 Thread KW
I would like to find my old '68 SS. I bought this car in 1982 and sold it
about a year later.
It was midnight blue laquer, had a 350 stroker with LT-1 heads, a Holley 750
double pumper, and a 4sp. M-22.

I still have the vin# 138378B211730 and it was sold in Roanoke, Va.

If someone on the list ownes this car, please let me know. I hope it's still
alive somewhere..

Thanks
Keith

Dan Carr’s page (http://www.chevelles.com/shop/ss_ident.html#71)
explains a little about the Heavy Chevy option in 71/72.  According to the
page, the 454 was not offered on this model.  Many Heavy Chevy’s were
cloned into SS cars since many of the options were already there.  A quick
check of the VIN or even the Fisher Body plate will confirm the makeover as,
like stated below, the HC was based of the Chevelle (models 133xx/134xx for 71 or
1C3xx for 72) and not the Malibu.

Offered mid year71 and all of 1972.  It started as a poor man's SS
so to speak and was a sporty option that supposedly didn't attract higher
insurance rates.  It was off the base Chevelle platform while the SS was
off the Malibu
platform.  It could be optioned up but I don't think you could get the 454
in it.

[Chevelle-list] VIN #

2006-02-01 Thread Larry Williams
I finally got to ask my CHP neighbor about my missing VIN problem. He
said don't worry about it - do nothing. He is aware of my modifications
and $ invested in the car and agrees that the risk of losing the car,
although minimal, is not worth it if the hidden VIN is different and
stolen. Oh well I guess I'll never make it to B.J. Auction.

Re:   HEAVY CHEVY
    I n 1971 and 1972 there was an
option available on chevelle sport coupe's
called a Heavy Chevy. the VF3
package included special black or white striping
 and a decal.The standard
engine was a 200hp 350 V-8 with some power options
 available.
The only colored picture of a
Heavy Chevy engine i have shows a bright orange
    350hp V-8 model.
The first time i heard about
this option was when i looked at my 1971 chevelle
on ebay and asked if it was
a heavy model because of the features. it was not.
It was described as a poor man's
ss in 1971.Plain body and trim but a bigger
engine. I don't think it was any
heavier than other malibus.

Remember that
back then "heavy" didn’t mean heavy, kind of like the way stupid doesn’t
mean stupid any more. I really never knew why they called it that (and were
they all orange?).
