Usually a little heat from a hair dryer or heat gun will soften the glue enuff to peel a sticker off.

I don't actually sandblast, I glass bead. And yes
it will look slightly different but will not damage the springs. One other small
detail that works well, I hook the springs to a comealong and stretch them open
enough to get the paint/sealer in between the coils so when you open your hood
they look good inside and out.

You can phosphate coat at home. Dupont has a two
part system that works pretty well. 5717S is first used to clean all the rust
and dirt from the part them 5718S is the phosphate coating. It's a dip type
coating, no special tools needed. It will resist rust but not prevent it.
Much like the factory coating.

71 front seats will interchange with 69-72
Chevelle, LeMans, Cutlass, GTO, and Skylarks. This is for the frames and
padding, the seats will need to be recovered in the 71 Chevelle style
cover.

Different "Mike" here.

The "phosphate" is actually a zinc pfosphate product.
I have a gallon from Eastwood. I use it in a spray
bottle with repeated coats. Don't get it on you or the
cement. I also used a Mr. Rust product. It's a handy
product because you can spray a small cloth and wipe
it on surface rusted parts.

If you want the natural look try sandblasting them and paint with a satin

170 is prefix for all 1976 and later

5 is 76-79,

8 is 1978 model year

2 is QJet (Federal Standards)

5 is Oldsmobile division (Chevrolet would be 0, 1, or 2)

9 is manual transmission (any odd digit)

318 is julian date of probably Nov 14 and 7 is the calendar year of 1977

BTY is customer code but you'd have to check numerous build sheets to find
the plant I think.

It may have come off a Corvette, but not installed on one from the factory.
Still kind of odd being a manual trans Olds for 1978.

Did the el camino come with some kind of drain in the bed?
ive got a 69, and in the floor panel directly under rear window, there
are 3 holes 1 in ea corner, and one in the middle,
I spotted these today, as i was laying new floors down, and saw major
amounts of water pouring in through these holes.
Are these factory drain holes? or did some one drill these in,thinking
it would drain out under car cause they dont,, lol, they drain right
inside the back cab of my elk.

  What a mess, ;)
