Re: [Chevelle-list] Tach for 65 SS

2006-07-19 Thread Devin
Larry- No such item was available a few years ago when I was putting my
plan together, only the occasional rare stock tach, at more than I could
afford. I ended up going with a whole new dash assembly built to my specs
from Haneline. I can send pics if you're interested.

Re: [Chevelle-list] M-20 Rock - Crusher?

2006-07-19 Thread Z16CHEVELLEGUY

If you noticed he changed the listing from a M-22 to a M-20. The first M-22
in 1965 were built from M-20s.Only a M-22 is a rock crusher which gets its name
from the distinctive whine of the M-22 gears

2006-07-19 Thread Z16CHEVELLEGUY

Both 64 & 65 could be ordered with a tach in place of the clock.
If a tach was ordered ,then   the option of what is called top of
the dash clock replaced the in dash clock. The option number was U16. There were
3 tachs offered; 5200 redline- 6 K tach (standard), 5600 redline- 6 K
tach (L79 & Z16) and a 6000 redline -7 K tach (possibly an over the
counter replacement or maybe the infamous 64 360 hp Chevelle that everyone talks
about but has never been proven to exist?). At one time I had the GM numbers for
all three but lost them when my computer crashed. The 5200 sells for about
200-275 and  5600 usually sells for 350-500. I have only seen 4 (Dick
Brandt of True Connections,myself, a friend and Ebay)of the 6000 in 35 +
years of being a Chevelle nut. My friend just sold his on Ebay for
close to 1200.

[Chevelle-list] Bump Stops

2006-07-19 Thread Ron Griffith

Now that I've finished my '71 El Camino, I've started
a frame-off on a '67 Chevelle convertible. After tearing down the front end I
discovered hat the upper a-frame bump stops are missing. I picked up a set of
Energy Suspension universal bump stops. They will work fine, but are designed to
be trimmed to the proper height. According to several sources, the bump stops
are the same on '64 thru '72 A-bodies. I thought before I tear down my Elky to
measure the height, I'd check here to see if anyone here knows. Can anyone
help??? Thanks

Larry
Don't know if Chevy ever did put a tach on the clock location but a Sun
SuperTach II fits in the hole.
I had received a beautifully repainted dash from my brothers for my
birthday. (we're all old car guys)
I'm currently fabricating a bracket for it. Using jack screws in place
of the nuts on the back of the tach

housing. It's nice to have another dash to fix up and then swap in.

Probably for a REALLY SHORT drive. Its hard to beat bearing grease.

Re: [Chevelle-list] M-20 Rock - Crusher?

2006-07-19 Thread Larry Shouse

Larry,

If you run the numbers and it turns out to be an M-20, it's not a rock
crusher. Looking at his pictures, the angle on the gears makes it look like
a M-20 or M-21.

My guess is it is not a rock crusher. I could be wrong though...

Re: [Chevelle-list] Muncie linkage.

2006-07-19 Thread steve502
Dennis,
I agree with Trooper. My Muncie shifter was a pain to install, a pain to
shift, and a pain to yank out. Just buy a handle and use a good Hurst
Competition Plus shifter. The Muncie shifts like a wet noodle and is prone to
binding.especially if there is a hot chick in the nearby vicinity or a
crowd is watching you try to show off.

You can find plans on the web to make an adaptor for the Muncie Handle. It is
easyweld two pieces of steel into a T-shape and drill 4 bolt holes.
