Re: [Chevelle-list] 70 SS GRILLE/and grill paint in general

2007-04-24 Thread Dale
Not quite true. The 67 300/300 Deluxe and Malibu did have the trim mounting
holes on the top bar but they also were different in as much as the last
egg-crate block next to the headlamps was filled (#3885980) where the SS
grille was open from headlamp to headlamp (#3892182). The Concours wagon
got a third grille (#3907432) that was open like the SS but had trim
mounting holes like the Malibu.

And the '67's had SS grilles that had partially blacked out areas although
the grill was identical (except for the badge holes) on the Malibu...

They were all silver, SS grilles were painted before installed on SS cars.
I've had a few NOS 1970 grilles, all have been silver.

Did the SS grille for a 70 come new black or silver/gray from the factory? A
friend has a nos 70 grille that is silver/gray and he says you have to paint it
black, always been that way. Thats an awful lot of sanding edges and corners.

Re: [Chevelle-list] big block oil pressure ??

2007-04-24 Thread Rick Schaefer

I can't comment on the noise but a rule of thumb is 10PSI per 1K RPM when
warm. So if your gauge is accurate I wouldn't think that you have a
pressure problem.I've had a bad exhaust gasket that sounded like a bad
lifter at idle. The noise was less noticeable at speed.

When I first start the car, the pressure is about 45PSI at idle, after
driving and warming the engine, the pressure drops to around 20PSI at idle
in gear. At that point, there is an audible noise knocking noise from the
motor, which at this point I assume to be a lifter. As soon as the RPM is
increased, the pressure shoots up and the noise goes away.

So where I'm stuck at, is wondering if the noisy lifter is the cause or a
symptom of the low oil pressure. I am told there was a new high volume pump
installed.

Looking for any input the list can offer.

Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 chevelle rear disc brake

2007-04-24 Thread Dan Mascheck
I put Wilwoods on my 72. One problem is the C clips on the 12 bolt allow in
and out play on the axle. It's not much, but it can wear the pads out a bit
early. I had the C clips removed and put Ford ends and bearings on my 12
bolt. Works for me.

Clyde, Before you buy Baer. take a look at www.touring-classics.com. Much
cheaper for the same basic brake kit.
