Re: [Chevelle-list] chroming wheels

2007-10-15 Thread Brian Knight

Advanced doesn't plate wheels. Have you ever seen chrome powder coat? A place
in Louisville will do it for 50-75 per wheel. I said sand out of habit.
Thankfully it was soda.

 Thanks, Brian

Oof. Sand blasted or media blasted? Sand is pretty rough on aluminum, I hate
to tell you but you might have only added more work for whoever plates them.

Aluminum is tricky to chrome in and of itself, and having all the recesses that
a wheel does, would make it even more difficult.

That being said, with proper prep and expertise, a very nice result can be
obtained. But with that prep and expertise comes a price tag which might just
make rechroming an un-economical choice.

If you do decide to get them done, you cannot go wrong with the quality of the
work that comes out of Advanced Plating in Nashville TN.

Good luck.

[Chevelle-list] March P/S bracket on BBC in 1970 Chevelle

2007-10-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Alrighty, I ran into a bit of a snafu today. I bought a March serpentine
conversion kit from Summit a few months ago and just got around to trying to
install it this weekend.

The problem I'm having is that the power steering bracket that was supplied
with the kit tries to mount the pump too low on the engine, making the pump
body hit the steering box.

Wondering if anyone on the list has had this problem and if so, what was the
remedy?

Thank you much

Ryan, I measured my '69 and I got 75 inches at the rounded part of the doors.
Based on Dale's info it's probably 75.whatever it was. The measurement between
the front body mount holes under the firewall is 52 1/2.
Don't know if the info from a '69 helps or not.

I looked at Dales web pages but didnt see what I was looking for. I'm sure
its there somewhere but I was just looking in the wrong spot.

I am looking for the distance between the body mount holes under the fire
wall on a 68 malibu.
Also, how wide is the 68 at its widest point? I know the doors are kinda
rounded so I have to take that into consideration.
How much does just the body (no front clip) weigh roughly?

I know someone out there has this info in front of them so any help would be

Might check http://www.chevellestuff.com/generic/frames.htm - it won't
answer all your questions but it shows the distance from various points on a
68-72 frame to the centerline of the frame, just double the measurement.
Maximum overall width of the 68 (according to my data) is put at 75.7-inches
at its widest point.

Front clip I have no idea.
