Re: [Chevelle-List] America

The great thing about this list is the fact that members
are allowed to express non-Chevelle topics. As a software developer, I belong to
many lists. None of theselists willallow something even close to
off-topic. The moderators will not post these messages to the list, and will
often suspend you from there list as punishment. Hats off the Chevelle List
owners and the 1st amendment.

I really don't agree on this type of stuff being sent on list, but I do
agree onmost of his points. The Learn the language one is tops in my

Re: [Chevelle-List] Hi, im new here!

2002-06-25 Thread AOK Lansing

Welcome aboard Chad.

It is great to see the younger generation interested in muscle cars. 5
years ago when I asked my then 15 year old Daughter what new car she wanted
for her 16th birthday, she replied, 'I would rather have a 69 Chevelle than
any new car available'. Two days later, we have a 69 Chevelle setting in the
garage. It is setup in full race gear (no heater, lights, interior, etc.).
It took her, her little sister, my wife and I a year to get it streetable
and every kid in school wanted to buy it, no way! Two years later, I had to
buy here a new car to get the Chevelle back.

hi everyone! im a newbie, but i know mailing lists, cause i am on the
cockatoo's list. anyways, im 15 years old, and the only cars i like, are
muscle cars, lol. my particular favorite is a 70 chevelle ss w/ the all
important 396. im also very fond of the 70 goats! but i most definitly
have a respect for those cars, and will never beat them and play rap music
all day, like some people i know, lol. but i just recently attended my
first car show in Oakmont, PA, and it was Great, a guy with a 70 SS even
let
me sit in it! that made my day. i have a question regarding paint codes,
what kinds of paint were there (for the 70 year)? my particular favorites
are champagne gold, __ red (the blank is my question, cause i dont
know
what KIND of red i like, black, and cortez silver - all with stripes! i
could stay and talk about muscle cars all day, but ill rather meet all of
you, and i hope i have a good time here!

Out here in the rural Midwest I recently saw the 'Ultimate Hood Scoop'. A
nicely painted News Paper Box glued to the hood of a 73. It also had 'Ghost
Text' on it! 'The Detroit News'

Re: [Chevelle-List] Chevelle Love

2002-05-01 Thread AOK Lansing

Buying one finished can be monetarily cheaper, but by no means emotionally
cheaper. I have many friends driving and bragging about their 2001-2002
Corvettes. I could also buy a Vette and cruise around and see 10 more just
like it every day.
I choose to continually work on my '69' and have not seen a duplicate yet.

Hey Guys: I'm new to the list and I'm really enjoying hearing what
others
are saying about their cars and their lives. Recently someone mentioned
about the admiration for the guys that do all their own work to restore,
etc. Well I admire those guys also but everyone can't do that kind of
stuff
whether because of mechanical skills or other reasons and there are many
other reasons besides $$. When you work in the auto or a related business
 there's a network for assistance. If you're young there's probably also a
network of gearheads in your crew. But all of us don't have that luxury.
I
had a brand new L-79 SS 4sp in 65. Then came the Army and a wife and kids
and college and family. You get the picture. I usually had a 65 under a
cover rusting or in the garage in later houses. I'm on my 4th 65 SS now.
I
continued to go to the shows as a spectator and went to and kept up on the
drags. I belonged to as many as 4 clubs but was always inactive because I
 didn't have a d!
  ri!
vable car. After every show, drag race and TV show, as well as all the
magazines articles, etc., I would go through my mini states of
depression
and dream of the day I would build or own a workable 65. Well the family
grew, the job got better and the wife more understanding after 25 years.
I
sold the rustbucket out of the garage and immediately started looking. My
2
teenagers were really excited. Over the years I had witten to Mark
Meekins
of the NCOA in NC and spoken to Chuck Hanson of ACES in addition to
speaking
to many owners at shows and reading articles. To the guys that can do it
all-my hats off to you! Obviously you have the skills and love doing it.
Many guys do some and professionally farm out most of it. And then
there's
those of who buy a completed car and work on putting our own touches and
changes. Just maintaining a 37 year old weekend driver is a job. There's
always something to be done or some minor mechanical change or adjustment
 needed. I didn'!
  t !
build my car. I didn't have the skills. But the guy who did 3000 miles
away did and for that I admire his talent and patience. Had I built this
car, and it is BUILT, it would not have been much different except for the
color. Let me end by saying there are all kinds of us in this sport,
hobby,
lifestyle, or whatever you call this enjoyment of old cars. Kids, elders,
mechanics, bodymen, doctors, lawyers, you name it. Because I didn't build
my car with my own hands and sweat doesn't mean I don't Love my car and
Chevelles any less than the guy who did. Anyone who feels that way is
 grossly mistaken!

Lots of great input on this. What it comes down to is that we are all
in the hobby for what it brings to number one - ME!Some like a
modified car (dale); for some it MUST be a numbers matching 100% accurate
restoration (john - tom??). For me its got to be practical (???). I
do not live in your shoes, and you do not live in mine. I can/should
not tell you what is right (for you) and you can/should not tell me what
is right (for me). That is one of the things making this list so
addicting - diversity.BUT what we all agree on is a love for the 1964
 - 1972 ( plus a few folks who love the later years[kelly]) A-Body
produced by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors.
