Re: [Chevelle-list] sludge in motor

Kyle,
I would recomend Gunk 5 minute flush. Pour it in with the old oil and let it
idle for 5 minutes. Then, change the oil. I would not do much more then this
to clean the sludge out because you may encounter other problems. It is a
fact that the sludge is indeed stoping gaskets from leaking. By cleaning and
flushing the motor to much you will start seeing oil leaks that you did not
have before.

As I recall the knobs do pull off. I don't believe there is any set screw.
If they won't pull off easy. Try using a rag around it and grab the back side
with pliers.

Bob,
Santa was great to me. I built myself a new computer. Made using an
MSI motherboard and AMD Athlon XP 3.0. Stuck in a DVD burner and a 250 gig hard
drive supported by 3 gig of RAM. So I had a wonderful Christmas and I hope you
did to Bob.

2003-12-09 Thread Chevelle70SS454c

Merry Christmas guys !There is a "LS6 Chevelle" listed on ebay
thats for sale in Florida. My memory is fading, but didn't GM sell LS6's without
any power options (other that the manditory disc brakes) such as air and power
steering? Or were there LS6's that came with air. I thought that the air option
was only availible on LS5's and down.Curious minds (or is that a fading
mind) are wondering.   ThanksBill CHello all,
To my knowledge, LS6 Chevelle's never came with AC however
power disc brakes did come with them. Power Steering wasa an option but few had
it. My 70 Chevelle is a factory SS LS6 car with Power Disc Brakes and an AM
radio, no PS, no AC. At the speed it can make who needs AC anyway. LOL

Hi all,
In regard to Ignition Switches and key switches. The ignition switch is the electrical part and what some people call the key switch would actually be the key tumbler which is known as the ignition tumbler and keys. Just wanted to let you know so you don't order the wrong part at a store.

Sarge,
I do agree that a 2 bolt block with splayed caps is a better choice the a conventional 4 bolt but it depends on the HP you want to get out of it.

Re: [Chevelle-list] the waiting... POWER RESTORED!

2003-09-23 Thread Chevelle70SS454c

Donnie,
It is a 5,000 watt generator. I have a 240 volt 50 amp outlet in my garage for my air compressor. I turn off the main feed and all breakers at the electric box so that there is no chance of power coming to the house from the power company.  Then you plug a male to male cord from the 240 outlet of the generator to the 240  outlet in the garage. Then you start the generator, go to your electric box and start turning on the breakers that you want to use. I don't turn all of the breakers on but the ones that I want to use the most. I turn on the water pump, refrigerator, range, bathrooms, Big TV Screen (LOL) , computer and lights throughout the house. At some point the generator will start to strain. You will know it is when the motor starts to bog down. If this happens you have to much on in the house and adjust what is on accordingly. If you would like to know more feel free to email me.

JIm,
I lost power Thursday night around 9 and did not get it back till Saturday night arounf 6 PM. I took the Generator out of the race car trailer and hook it up to my main box and powered the whole house. Let me know if you want to get a generator. I can hook you up.

Diane;
If you are useing can be a good thing. What else are you running for Ignition.  IE   HEI,  MSD unit, MSD distriutor. These are all a factor in what to gap your plugs at.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Plugs for Big Block?

2003-09-09 Thread Chevelle70SS454c

Diane,
Yes, you are correct in what you say about spark plugs. It is not the motor size that dictates the plug that you should use but the heads that you are using. For instance, between a World Products (Dart) head and a Brodix or factory head, they can all use different plugs. It is indeed the depth of the threads in the head that dictate what plug reach you should use.
