Re: [Chevelle-list] Very OT - Chevy ABS pads
Hello:i noticed in all the replies, that the most important thing to do before replaceing the pads, was not mentioned.Crack open the front bleeders and invert the brake calipre to allow the dirty old fluid to be drained from the brake calipre. This should be done for a couple of reasons.(1) if the vehicle has abs,the old contimanited fluid will be pushed back into the hcu, causing the hcu to possibly become defective.(2).when the bleeder is cracked open, the calipre is inverted, the old fluid will not have any chance to be pushed into the hcu.You can use a large apir of channel lock pliers.a c clamp,or install the new pads and use a calipre spreader to push the piston back in. Hello:apparently a 70 radio is different. But maybe you could let me know what the plug on the rear of the radio looks like.A 69 radio has a plug on the back of the radio,it has 4 terminals going up and down, there is a empty space that has the word " LAMP" stamped into the metal case.If your radio has that 4 terminal plug and a empty spot marked LAMP,it would appear to be a 69 radio. Please let me know. - Original Message - From: Dave MacGregor To: The Chevelle Mailing List Sent: Tuesday, December 26, 2006 12:47 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 chevelle radio if anyone is interested, I have an AM radio out of a 70 chevelle I sold a while back. Re: [Chevelle-list] Coil Springs
Hello:you can take a long piece of threaded rod, what ever size will fit through the upper hole where the shock would mount, this is usually at least 1/2"threaded rod can work.Usuing a plate that will stop against the lower control arm,you can use the threaded rod to act as your spring installer. This works really good and is very safe.Always inspect the threaded rod for stress before using it again for safety sake. on my 69 chevelle we used a epoxy based primer sealer and painted black over it.every time a wrench or a stone hits it it chips.we have restored numerous corvettes and powder coated the frame and have had no problems,i hit the frame on one car with a hammer by mistake and the powder coat wasn't bothered. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Sent: Friday, September 08, 2006 4:19 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Best primer - frame/ suspension parts In a message dated 9/8/2006 4:50:37 A.M. I plan on sanding/ sandblasting it down as well as removing, sanding/ sandblasting all the suspension stuff as well. My question is, what sort of primer should I use on these parts? Because of where I am doing this (outside, not in an enclosed area), I'd prefer to use a rattle can, but if that's not going to yield good results, I'll do what I have to do (and I have a compressor and an HVLP gun). Anyone have any advice on this? Karl Groves Master Certified CIW http://www.karlcore.com Will Work For Parts: http://chevelle.karlcore.com/detail.php?id=3

if you visit ngk spark plug web site ,that may help.then you could convert the ngk back to a\c delco.www.ngksparkplugs.ca - Original Message - From: "Danny Wilsher" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "The Chevelle Mailing List" Sent: Monday, September 04, 2006 6:07 PM Subject: [Chevelle-list] spark plugs Hello gentlemen, I am working on a 70 model 350 and have exchanged the old point type distributor for a HEI from who knows what but it has been so long since I have tackled this little chore that I have forgotten what kind of plugs I used to use. I know if I get some that I can gap wider it will be better. The ones in the motor are the 13/16 with the metal gasket that seals them to the head. The guy at the parts store told me that the ones with the 5/8 would work just fine but I would rather get a plug that seals like it is supposed to, not with the beveled seat that the 5/8 plugs have. What I am asking for is a number for say an AC plug that will work with the HEI distributor. Thanks, Danny Wilsher Wilsher Motorsports Inc.
Re: [Chevelle-list] Alternator Question
Hello:you can get a alternator built to any specs, with the load that you had in the rain, actually a 63 amp it should have been okay, take the alternator and get it tested for correct operation, also make shure the belt was tight,if you can put a avr or a similiar tested on the car,to see if the alternator was actually putting out as close as possible to 63 amps would be a good test to see if the alternator is okay internally. - Original Message - From: Dave Benjamin To: chevelle-list@chevelles.net Sent: Wednesday, August 02, 2006 9:42 AM Subject: [Chevelle-list] Alternator Question I was wondering what size of Alternator I should be using on my 1968 Beaumont (350/350). I have a 63 amp and it was working good until Sunday night I got caught in the rain coming home from cruise night. With wipers, lights and heater blower going the volts were down to 12 and was a little worried. What size Alternator are most of uses using. Re: [Chevelle-list] Anyone have any opinions on 10% ethanol gasoline?
Hello:according to ngk,if you are running a fuel blended with ethanol you should be running 1 heat range cooler spark plug and reducing the gap by .010.This applies to all later model cars police or taxi's,fleet vehicles and modified engines, and any vehicle that uses a performance air filter(35% more air flow).(I CAN HEAR THE ARGUMENTS NOW),BUT IF YOU WANT TO VERIFY WHAT I HAVE SAID VISIT NGK'S WEB SITE.www.ngksparkplugs.ca or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Original Message - From: "Jim Hunter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: ; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, June 23, 2006 7:58 PM Subject: [Chevelle-list] Anyone have any opinions on 10% ethanol gasoline? All of the gas stations in SE Pa. that I've tried recently have gone to the 10% ethanol mix. I've read reports that claim it to be corrosive to carburetors & fuel system components in older cars and I've read other reports which deny this. Anyone have the real scoop? Anyone know of any gas stations that are still selling 100% gasoline? Jim -69-SS396- H.
Re: [Chevelle-list] OT - Automatic Tranny Service On My Avalanche
if you "get the fluid sucked out,be shure to change the filter also.we have a trans-tech transmission flushing machine,it is hooked up to the cooler lines, the fluid is pumped out enough to drop the pan, replace the filter, add required amount and type of new fluid to the machine and flush out the remaining old fluid.we have been performing this type of service for 5yrs and no problems as of yet.it is better to flush and replace the filter, rather than just flushing and not replacing the filter.if you drop the pan and change the filter, the remianing old fluid immediately contaminates the new fluid you have just added. - Original Message - From: Bill Lessenberry To: The Chevelle Mailing List Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2006 12:02 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] OT - Automatic Tranny Service On My Avalanche Do #2, add a bottle of Lubegard ATF protectant (red bottle, available at NAPA) fill 'er up & go. (of course the filter doesn't get changed this way) 2. Drop the pan myself and change the filter and oil myself. (I've heard you won't get all the oil out this way) 3. Better way? Thanks!Larry Shouse

Re: [Chevelle-list] Starting
Hello:perform voltage drop tests on all starter cables and negative cables, you can use a set of booster cables to check the ground circuit of the car, connect the negative to the battery and the other end to the block,if the car winds over okay, the ground is the problem, you can also do the same with the positive to check the positive side(only if enough clearance),also attempt to start the car with a boost or a good strong battery charger hooked up to the chevelle. Is there any kind of a junction block,on my 69 chevelle there is a plastic junction where the 10 gauge red wire from the battery positive connects to,you can bypass that to see if that helps, other responses have mentioned to check starter and battery, this should also be checked completely as the other members have suggested, also 1 other thing, check the block whrere the starter mounts to make shure it is clean and not rusty, body grounds etc. - Original Message - From: Crazy Rusty To: 'The Chevelle Mailing List' Sent: Friday, May 12, 2006 4:21 PM Subject: [Chevelle-list] Starting A friend of mine just bought a 66 chevelle at an auction and was having trouble starting it. When you turn the key the starter clicks a lot and the engine very slowly cranks. The battery is fine, starter is new and tests fine, and all the electrical in the engine compartment seems to be fine. Supposedly the car was driven a bit five years ago and then parked in their yard and never started again. They got it running once before the auction but since then its done this. Anyone have any other ideas?

Re: [Chevelle-list] Project '68
The true name for the wire is called piano wire,it is strong but thin,it will work very good,When removing the window try to do it on a warm or sunny day.The heat\sun will keep the windshield warm and the urethane soft. - Original Message - From: Rick Schaefer To: The Chevelle Mailing List Sent: Monday, April 03, 2006 12:00 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Project '68 The tool john is refering to is priceless. Its just a thin piece of strong wire. Push the wire thru the seal from outside to inside. Wrap each end of the wire around a short stick or even OE wrench. One person on inside & 1 outside, with a sawing motion, pull the wire thru the seal all the way around the glass. You may have to go around twice to make it easier to seperate when you lift the glass out. Try to be careful and NOT hang the wire up on the edge of the glass. It will chip. When its time to reinstall, use butyl rubber ribbon sealer NOT the sealer in a tube. The ribbon sealer may be harder to find, but it allows the window to flex independently of the body. The tube sealer gets hard and forces the glass to flex with the body. Leading to cracks. IF you need one, the windshields are available from the aftermarket. I've seen them at swap meets for as little as $109. If yours is chipped/crazed from 40 years of use, the replacements are not bad. Some say slightly thinner than OEM, but the trim on my elky fit back on fine. Good luck On 4/3/06, KW <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Thanks, and good idea about the spread sheet. Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 Chevelle brake pedal drops to floor
Hello:use pinch pliers to pinch off the 2 front and the rear brake flex hoses,if the master pressure or firmness stays up,then the master is not the problem,if it drops or is mushy, the master is the problem. This is a good way to check to see what part of the brake system is at fault without guessing. Be careful not to pinch the hose too tight,if you do you will collapse the brake hose internally. There are special pliers\tools that are available from lisle or other tool manufacturers that are for this purpose. - Original Message - From: "John Nasta" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "The Chevelle Mailing List" Sent: Wednesday, February 22, 2006 1:47 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] 69 Chevelle brake pedal drops to floor > Good advice but that doesn't seem like the sort of thing that would suddenly > cause a problem.
