Carburetor questions

ListHi,After
looking through some of the recent Holiday sale catalogsthat have
begun arriving (e.g. the OPG holiday catalog), I have a
fewmiscellaneous carburetor questions that I was wondering if anyone
couldanswer for me, as I don't have any experience working with them
and Idon't know much about them (I want to learn what I can in this
area thatis foreign to me before for when the aging one on my SS needs
anyattention!).As background, I have a 69 SS with a 72 402
truck crate engine init. The car is mainly original and basically
stock except for a few mildupgrades (e.g. 2.5" exhaust, electronic
ignition, etc.) & I'd like tokeep it that way Here are my
questions:1) How many CFM were the factory quadrajets used on
bigblocks from the69-72 time period? (I see that OPG sells aftermarket
Edelbrockcarburetors with 600 & with 750 CFM ratings that are said
to fit 64-77cars, but what were the factory CFM rates? If I were to go
with anaftermarket model like an Edelbrock, which CFM would be closest
to whatcame out of the factory?).2) What would be the
differences between a 69 big block quadrajet and a72 big block
quadrajet? (I see that Year One sells only one Rochestercarburetor
that they say fits 68-69 327s, 350s and 396/325 & 396/350,while
the Paddock sells a PAD01661 4bbl quadrajet said to fit 1969 alltrans
/ 350CID & they list a different PAD01187 4bbl quadrajet said
tofit 1972 all trans / all engines - given that I have a 1969 vehicle
withmay be a 1972 quadrajet, would there be any real difference in
these 2carburetors outside of possible visual differences and could
their use becriss-crossed between 69 and 72 vehicles?). 3) Is
there a way I can tell exactly what year quadrajet is on my
vehiclecurrently? (i.e. is there an identifying characteristic and/or
ID # on itthat I could see that would tell me for sure without me
having to takethe carburetor off it? Seems to me that when I first
bought the vehicle,I looked for numbers but didn't find much of
anything that anyone coulddecode for me). 4) Outside of the
Year One, PADDOCK and OPG/Edelbrock models listedabove, can anyone
recommend any other "national" specific sources/modelsfor a
replacement quadrajet for me? (and does anyone think I might beable to
find a new or rebuilt one locally through my local auto partsstores /
suppliers - e.g. NAPA and the likes of them)?5) When changing a
carburetor, is there any other miscellaneous h/w orgaskets that I
would need to replace? (I see that OPG and Year One list aheat
insulator/heat shield that goes between the carburetor and intakebut I
don't see them list any other gaskets or h/w - would I be able toreuse
the insulator/shield I have & I if I do need to change a
gasket, where would I be able to find one?).As always, *thanks*
for any info anyone can give me!Jim -69-SS396-
