Re: [Chevelle-list] 64 Chevelle wiper question

2007-12-03 Thread Daniel De Smet

After looking at the schematics and double checking everything again, I decided
that it must be a bad rebuilt wiper motor. I took it out and went back to the
parts store and had them get me another one. I just got home and installed the
motor and I now have wipers again. I am glad that it was a bad motor. I just
drove myself crazy trying to figure this out since I could not believe that I
had gotten a bad part and I must be overlooking something. Plus I did not want
to look like a moron if it worked when they tested it when I tried to take it
back.
Thanks for the help, Dan

[Chevelle-list] 64 Chevelle wiper question

2007-12-02 Thread Daniel De Smet

I just got my car back from paint and body. Now my wipers do not work. I have
checked out at the wiper motor and I have 12 volts and when I turn the wiper
switch it provides the ground at the motor. So I have power and ground at the
motor. I also checked the wiper motor body to ground and it has a good ground
to the body. I cleaned the body ground just to make sure. I assumed since I
have 12 volts and a ground that switches with the wiper switch that I must have
a bad wiper motor. I purchased a new wiper motor and installed it. I checked
the wiper linkage when the motor was off and it moved freely. Now that the new
wiper motor is installed I still do not have working wipers.

Does any one have any ideas? I am wondering if I just got a bad motor. I
would not think that a two wire system would be that hard to diagnose but it is
really beginning to annoy me plus I lost my schematic book so I am just tracing
wires.

Yes, that is the part that we are talking about. Besides the rear window that is probably the next most rusted out part of my Chevelle.

I called OPGI back yesterday and the person that I called did tell me that
they are currently tooling up for production, so they won't have them for a
minimum of 2 or 3 months.

I tried to buy a set a month or so back. The CS rep at OPG confided in me
that the items are in the catalog but they have never had any on the shelf.
I made mine.

I have ordered them for my 64, but they are on back order and OPGI can't
seem to give me any idea when they may be available. I was hopping that my
car would be done in time for the Power Tour but it is not looking good
since I cant finish out the trunk without the gutter set.

I was looking at a rear gutter set in the OPGI catalog. anyone use one
of these? Mine is toast and I suppose I could make my own but don't want
to spend the time.

Thanks,

Re: [Chevelle-list] transmission question

2006-02-21 Thread Daniel De Smet

Buy the computer and use the 4L60E transmission. It is essentially the same internals as the 700 and with the computer control they are MUCH more reliable than the 700. The electronic is not as tempermental as the 700's.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Power Tour

2005-12-05 Thread Daniel De Smet
If you want to go on the power tour, you would register with Family Events. They do have a hotel registration if you dont want to find them yourself, BUT, you can do it much cheaper by doing a little research and making your own reservations. This will be my third year and second Long Haul. If you would like any more information, please feel free to e-mail me with questions and I will answer them as best as I can.

Would somebody with experience please explain to me the mechanics of how the Power Tour works?

Once the route is published, are we on our own to try to make reservations at all the stops?

Thanks,

Do you have a copy of the manual for a 64 Chevelle? If so can you e-mail it to me off list?

Thank YouDescribing how hard is it to install is kind of a subjective thing!Have you ever had the dash out, changed a heater core or the fan motor in the vehicle?I've got copies of the installation manuals that I can e mail (15 megs so you'd have to have dsl or BB) or mail. Then you can decide if it's something you can do.Gary

Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners

If you think a 68 is a redheaded stepchild, try owning a 64. You hardly see them and parts are not as available for them as they are the 68. I just wish I had my 68 Chevelle or my 68 El Camino back again.
Dan

Kinda surprised to see so many 68 owners on the List. For too many
years, that year has kinda been looked down upon as the redheaded stepchild.
