I am getting different opinions on which is which regarding the stepside
fleetside rear bumpers on Chevy trucks. One is rounded at the corners and
wraps around the tailgate, and the other is more industrial and flat
looking, and goes straight across the tailgate.

Personally, I thought the stepside trucks got the chrome wraparound
bumpers
and the fleetsides got the painted, flat rear bumpers, but our supplier on
these has them listed the other way around (and at the moment, so do we as
a
result). Any clarification would be appreciated.

 Thanks,
 John Nasta

Ah Ha! One I can answer!

 Andre,
Any 68 to 72 A-body frame. An A-body is any of the other similar GM cars
like the Pontiac Lemans GTO, Olds Cutlass, Buick Skylark, etc. Just
make
sure the donor car is a 68-72 AND a 2-door. ElCaminos and 4-doors have
longer frames. Convertible frames are the same length but are
re-enforced,
 heavier, and more expensive.

Well class, how did I do?

Good luck Andre. Make sure it is straight and as rust-free as possible.

 James,

Thats the very reason I think clones suck! because
some unsuspecting/unknowing buyer more than likely
will get hosed. you make a clone good enough, and
somewhere somebody will try and pass it off as the
 real deal.

The steel was $178 all cut and ready to go. The worst part is
drilling all the holes. If you want pictures let me know. I
did make a little adjustment, added 2 hyd cyl to raise and lower it on
the uprights.

[Chevelle-List] blasting a body

The fastest, safest and best way to
strip a car is acid dip. It will cost about the same as media
blasting. Maybe a little more. They don't use sand. Sandblasting
is one of those universal words everyone uses to describe what
they want done. They do sandblast the frame, I'll get mine done
this spring. Acid dipping will get in every nook and cranny and
remove EVERYTHING. Rust, grease, paint, sealer, etc. But you get
back virgin looking steel. They bake it in an oven to melt and
loosen everything then dip it and then it is run through a
neutralizing bath. Just had mine done and I couldn't be
happier with it. The solid floors I thought I had.. well
their not so solid. I have to replace two small sections in
front. Right where the air conditioner was. I had a Mustang
media blasted once and it turned out to be a nightmare. It will
punch holes in weaker metal even if there are no holes there
now.

It sounded a lot better than trying to clean up the old ones or replace
them one by one by figuring out what they were.

 this little box?

When I opened the box up I said Well you tell me your

  Hi Gino,
Well, I really like my Edelbrock carb
manifold setup... but I doubt that the gas mileage is any better maybe
not as good as a good Q-jet setup.
The key word is "good". Q-jet's are either great or
they're junk. If you have a good one or know how to make it a good one,
they're hard to beat for an all around street carb. It just seems that so many
of them are not built right end up running bad.
