[Chevelle-List] Re:Subject: Do Not Dial Area 809 ( please read )

2002-05-13 Thread JSLKMS
Hey Guys and Gals.

Just got this from a friend, spread it around...looks serious.

Subject: Do Not Dial Area 809

SUBJECT: 809 area code

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY AT&T.
DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE 809

This one is being distributed all over the US. This is
pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get you
to call. Be sure you read this and do not make any calls to
area code "809".

MAJOR SCAM:
Don't respond to Emails, phone calls, or web pages which
tell you to call an "809" Phone Number. This is a very
important issue of Scam Busters because it alerts you to a
scam that is spreading *extremely* quickly can easily cost
you $2400 or more, and is difficult to avoid unless you are
aware of it. We'd like to thank Verizon for bringing this
scam to our attention. This scam has also been identified by
the National Fraud Information Center and is costing victims
a lots of money.  There are lots of different permutations
of this scam.

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:

You will receive a message on your answering machine or your
pager, which asks you to call a number beginning with area
code 809. The reason you're asked to call varies. It can be
to receive information about a family member who has been
ill, to tell you someone has been arrested, died, to let you
know you have won a wonderful prize, etc. In each case, you
are told to call the 809 number right away. Since there are
so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return
these calls.

If you call from the US, you will apparently be charged
$2425 per-minute. Or, you'll get a long recorded message.
The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long
as possible to increase the charges. Unfortunately, when you
get your phone bill, you'll often be charged more than
$24,100.00.

WHY IT WORKS:

The 809 area code is located in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.  The
809 area code can be used as a "pay-per-call" number,
similar to 900 numbers in the US. Since 809 is not in the
US, it is not covered by U.S. regulations of 900 numbers,
which require that you be notified and warned of charges and
rates involved when you call a "pay-per-call" number.

There is also no requirement that the company provide a time
period during which you may terminate the call without being
charged. Further, whereas many U.S. homes that have 900
number blocking to avoid these kinds of charges, do not work
in preventing calls to the 809 area code.  We recommend that
no matter how you get the message, if you are asked to call
a number with an 809 area code that you don't recognize just
disregard the message. Be wary of email or calls asking you
to call an 809 area code number. It's important to prevent
becoming a victim of this scam, since trying to fight the
charges afterwards can become a real nightmare. That's
because you did actually make the call. If you complain,
both your local phone company and your long distance carrier
will not want to get involved and will most likely tell you
that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign
company. You'll end up dealing with a foreign company that
argues they have done nothing wrong.

Tom.

You can remove the glass without breaking it. Your must not know much about removing windshields. Have to take off the widow trim and them take a coar hanger od rigid wire and work it between the glass and  frame. Then you can feed some wire through it and in a sawing motion up and down going along the perimeter of the glass you with beable to seprate the the seal from the glass. The glass sjould come out by pressing slightly. I have replaced several wind shields both from and back with no problems. Why buy new glass, it will come out

Got a disc brake question for you. I have a 66 Chevelle Malibu that I will be putting front disc brakes to. Right now the rotors are off a 72 Cutlass. I have the oppurtunity to acquire calipers , proportioning valve and master cyclinder from a 70 Chevy Van. What I need to know would this setup work ? I know you can interchange cars , but can you interchange from a van to a car. I may have to rebuild the master cylinder it holding fluid now or would it be wiser to buy a new master cylinder?

Another question also if anyone out there has to patch panels for a 66 Chevelle fairly reasonable I be interested, need left and right fender patches.

2002-03-08 Thread JSLKMS
Hello...

Need to know if anyone knows where I can find a LH and RH lower front fent quarter panels for a 66 Chevelle Malibu without having to pay through the nose for shipping. I usually buy my parts from NPD who only charge 10% for shipping. Bought a rear panel section for my car and paid only 8 bucks for shipping. Original Parts Depot charge you damn near 12.95 Fed X Ground and takes 7-10 days to get there. Paddock Parts charges by the dollar amount. These 2 parts cost about 36.50 each but their shipping is 16.00 ...So if there is anyone who may have them or know where I get them let me know, would appreciate it.these are the last 2 panels I need for the car.then its ready to be primed

[Chevelle-List] Four Bolt Main

2002-03-03 Thread JSLKMS
Howdy All

Quick question for you...I have a 350 engine in my 66 Chevelle , talking with a few local guys they asked if it was a 4 bolt main and I was not sure since it came with the car. It came out of 77 Chevy Pickup Truck , they said I could drop the pan and look at the crank , but it filled with oil and running. My question is is there any number designation in the block serial number that tells this.

Another quick question , does anyone know the emission laws in Pennsylvania with regards to running exhaust out the sides just past the rear window and in front of the rear tires just where the wheel well starts . I wanted to put on a header exhaust package and run them out the sides instead to the back below the bumper

Thanks guysJohn

I just did this same thing on my 68 malibu.  The car had drum brakes and I
put discs on from a 1971 Monte Carlo.  I went to checker auto and had no
problem buying new calipers for around $50.00 a set.  They also had new
rotors for around $120.00 a set.

I havent replaced the proportioning valve yet, but the car seems to stop
really well.  The fronts are quite a bit stronger than the rears now.  I have
heard a lot of people like this set up, as it is easy to spin the tires and
warm them up when racing.  I may still have the boxes for the calipers if you
need a part#, I guess these calipers were ysed on a wide variety of cars.

Jegs.com has an adjustable proportioning valve if you dont care about keeping
the car "original".

any information you have , part numbers ? Checkers ? Where are they located?

[Chevelle-List] Disc Brake Question ?????

2002-02-28 Thread JSLKMS
Morning Everyone

Iam presently about to put disc brakes on the front of my 66 Chevelle Malibu and Iam having a problem determining and / or locating the right calipers for it. There is are existing rotors on the car which came ( so to speak ) from a 70 's year Cutlass. Iam not sure what year Cutlass they are, but what procedure would I have to follow to get a good matchup ? Do I measure the distance across the rotor ? The distance across the pins ? Iam on a fixed income and on a low budget in restoring this car but so far I have managed to be 75 % complete on this car. I have looked on e-bay for calipers but nothing available, should I replace the existing rotors and buy a complete set of rotors and calipers from junkyard that match ? I hate going that route , dont know what your getting and if they are bad you wasted that money. I received a list of A-Body cars from a fellow suscriber here that was very helpful, thanks John. Would anyone of those calipers work on this Chevelle ? Just need!
someone to lead me in the right directions for calipers and yes I will also need a porportioning valve as well, have a master cylinder already and booster. Any help anywhere from anyone would be appreciated..if this is confusing, its early

Hello Chevelle Buddies

Iam having a dilema here , restoring a 66 Chevelle Malibu HT. When I got this
baby of mine she had nothing in the engine compartment . Heads , block ,
water pump , power steering pump. Since I started we have replaced starter (
with help from here ) solenoid, dist. , cap /rotor , fan blade , fuel pump ,
carb , valve covers , headers and spark plug wires.Configured the wiring from
the butcher who had her before me. No we are almost ready to fire her up but
we have come but we are having problems locating correct upper and lower
hoses, correct water pump pulley and correct aligment of where the belts go
to. I know the car calls for 2 belts , not being familar with this engine Iam
having a problem installing which belt to which assembly. Plus when I align
the belts with the pulley there seems to be a slight variation with
alignment. Are there spacers that can be used ? And what is the difference
between a long water pump pulley and a short water pump pulley ? I know Iam
asking alot here but we are so close to putting some life in to her . The
engine is a 350 cu. in . horse ( unknown ) . The radiator is stock 66
Chevelle. The neck is to the drivers side. Must have seen 100 hoses tonight,
some of these guys in the auto part stores amaze me that they work there,
some are good but some just dont know nuttin. So I have to seek advice from
the chevelle guru's. Hope you guys can help me thanks for your time

[Chevelle-List] Tech help ( Starter )

Morning..

My name is John ( papawheels ) recently acquired a 66 Chevelle Malibu that
Iam in the process of restoring. When I bought this car it had a 350 ci motor
with nothing on it . I replaced wires , carb , alt , power steering pump ,
valve covers . Re-painted the block , added headers and now I have come to a
block in the road. The car didnt come with a starter, should say it did but
it was doa. I talked with several guys at the tech shop on line last night
and got mixed opinions. The flywheel does not seem to have replaced, its
rusty and the cover plate is gone. Went to the auto store and picked up what
I thought to be exact match, but when we put it in the teeth on the flywheel
do not meash with the starter gear, from left to right about 1/2 in gap. The
pattern on the starter bolts is corner to corner but on the block it shows to
variations of holes . Corner to corner and side to side and the distance side
to side is about 1/4 inch farther then the corner. Sounds confusing to me
too. Dont know what the engine came out of all I know by the block code is it
from '69 to '79 .My question is , is there more than one variation of a chevy
starter for a 350 engine ? If I can get thru this obstacle Iam on my way to
the body and interior. The engine has been rebuilt but the previous owner
knows little about it or what it came out of..need help !!!
