I changed from a 307 to a big block and just used 307 mounts on the
block. I believe theres a difference in how tall they are. I have'nt had
any problems with them. James

The 307 mounts are different for some reason. I ran into the same
thing. You can change the pedestals on the fram, but I don't see why
you couldn't just use 307 Motor Mounts on your 454. I believe the
block side is the same between BB/SB. Maybe someone else could answer
that one for sure.

the truck motor mounts are also differnt form the chevelle motor

becasue truck motor mounts are different number

I do recall switching out the frame mounts on one car for whatever

reason at one time but do not recall if the mount (it bolts to
crosmemember and the motor mount sits on top) is any shorter/wider
or whatever for big block or 307you should call one of those
guys above, or even the GM dealer. they are usually pretty helpful

Subject: [Chevelle-list] Motor Mounts

I've been reading the questions posted for the last couple of
years and have one of my own. I sold my last Chevelle 14 years
ago when my son was born, so it's been a while- it feels good to
be a Chevelle owner again.

I recently purchased another 70 Chevelle to play with. I have a
454 with TH400 from a 73 Chevy C10 that I will be swapping
over but the motor mounts are different. I purchased a set of
mounts from the parts store but they don't fit down over the frame
mount. The frame mount is about 1/4" wider than the opening of
the motor mount.

I looked on-line at different suppliers and parts stores but they
all appear to be the same part number. Do I need different frame
mounts or is there a different motor mount I'm not finding? My
step-father thinks there were two different motor mounts. The
Chevelle I have did not come with an engine so I don't know for
sure what it had originally; it appears to have been a SBC. From
my searches it looks like the frame mount and motor mount for a
350 to 454 are the same and the motor mount for a 307 is a
different style.

Any help is appreciated.

Eric

I have done this swap and the 350 mounts are the same as a big
block but the 307 mounts are different according to my research. If you
use matching 307 or 350 mounts on the engine and frame you should be
alright.
 Good luck, James

André,
I'm currently doing this swap right now and I will tell you it has
been a pain in the you know what trying to find the information on
this. I have read that they are the same, that they are different at
least 100 times each and all I know is that I have either 350 or 307
lower mounts (According to some these differ between the two as well)
and BBC Moroso solid uppers and it doesn't fit right. If your friends
have raised port heads like I do this will also complicate the
situation, but that is another thing you can read that some fit fine
and other need custom headers.

My plan right now is to purchase a set of sbc Moroso solid uppers and
mate them with the current lowers in the car. I hear good things on
this approach, but who knows. I helped with the same swap in a 70
years ago and we had no problems at all... so I dunno what gives. Must
be my luck LOL. If that doesn't work I will either get an upper/lower
package from Moroso, build my own, or plate mount it. Hope this helps

Mikey

HI all,

I have a question from some guys doing a 68 chevelle for dragracing,
they are asking about BBC engine mounts, from what I understood SBC
and BBC mounts are the same unless the SBC mounts is a 307, is this
right ??

the car is an original 307 car but it came with a 350 when they
bought it, is it so that the 350 mounts can be used for a BBC or do
they have to change them ??

Thanks !
André
