Re: [Chevelle-List] Brodie knob?
A Brodie Knob is one of those knobs that mounted to the steering wheel. Kinda like what truck drivers and farmers used to steer their trucks/tractors. They are illegal in Ohio to use and I don't believe they were issued from factory on anything. You can buy them at any Tractor Supply store. Re: [Chevelle-List] Frame question
Mustangs are unibody cars, so they tend to fold easier with rot. My guess is that if it was opened, the car would have folded in half. That's why the support from underneath is so much more important on convertibles. John Nasta -Original Message- John is correct - that's why 'verts have always been called wiggle wagons in Detroit. The most notorious was when the F body 'vert was built by American Sunroof (ASC). They took production hardtops and cut the roof off and installed a ragtop without doing any stiffening work. I think ASC did this to BMW's, too, but they did quite a lot more structural work. - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: [Chevelle-List] Frame question
I wasn't implying that they didn't need as more support from below. But a full-frame convertible with a rotted floor isn't going to suffer as bad as a uni-body with a rotted floor.Apples to Oranges. Re: [Chevelle-List] Glove Box Bulb
Ok...I am REALLY confused about what the big deal is about replacing a glove box bulb. You have the old/blown bulb. Look on the base of it and see what # it has on it. Go to the parts store and match that # with one at the store. If you can't find that EXACT # then look at all of the bulbs in the selection until you find one that matches up. Kind of a no-brainer here. I mean c'mon you guys have built/rebuilt/etc your own cars right? Why would it be so hard to replace a small interior bulb?! Stepping off my soapbox now. Re: [Chevelle-List] My car is for sale
If it is all original why is there overspray underneath of the car? Also...I don't think untouched and touch-up paint should be in the same sentence together either.Evedentally SOMEONE touched it if there are door dings in it. :) Later, Jim - Original Message - From: Chad P. To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, October 29, 2002 10:34 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] My car is for sale ain't that the truth. Well, at the Verona car show, he showed his mustang (not for prize, just left it there for people to see). and the funny thing is, the mustang has 3 dents, the tailight panel is crooked, and the touchup paint on the door is a shade darker, and there is overspray underneath. Yet he acts like it's the best car out there. I will bet you that if he ever met you, he is gonna bring up his mustang in the converstation, and then most importantly, state that it is all original and untouched (he can't stress enough times that it is original and untouched). You ask what he likes, i guess it's mustangs. My dad's old friends are always shocked that he got a ford, and you know why? They were talking to me when he wasn't there, and they said on how much he bashed fords around back in the old days, and they say the funny thing is now that he BOUGHT a ford. Lol. It's not that he doesn't CARE for the car, he just wants to see it shiney and stock. Every time an old car drives past us, he always says somehting like, did you see that left quarter panel, it looked wavy, and I'm like, what the hell, I just gave him a thumbs up, and was woah, great kool car! I didn't look for no damn imperfections, for god's sake. He likes some cars, his favorite is a 70 Goat. But it has to be a "good deal" and original or he ain't gonna get it. Also, another funny thing is, that when he dropped that mustang at the show for people to look at it, he was worried about people stealing it!? I look around, and there's an 11,000 mile original LS-6 and then there is a 65 Hemi bedelverde, and he is worried about his 93 mustang GT getting stolen. haha... I've always run chrome dress-up stuff and never had any problems. The chrome are the same as the stock ones(steel). Although I have always used the blue rubber gaskets. I traded my chrome one for a stock piece due to leakage. Walt = Original Message From [EMAIL PROTECTED] = chrome leaks. I have a chrome timing chain cover on the 350 in my Cutlass and it did nothing but leak like a sive. I also had chrome valve covers on the same motor. they leaked too. The problem with a chrome or just about any aftermarket timing chain cover is that they don't fit exactly like the stock one. Personally I would powdercaot the stock one. Re: [Chevelle-List] Stereo question.
This may sound silly...but they used to sell an anti-thump filter. It was used when you turned on your stereo to keep the subs from thumping. Later, JIM - Original Message - From: Herbert Lumpp To: Chevelle List Sent: Saturday, October 05, 2002 8:09 PM Subject: [Chevelle-List] Stereo question. Ok all you stereo gurus... Hopefully somebody can help, the guys at the local stereo store are stumped. If I have my stereo on (not loud but normal listening volume) and the electric fans kick on, I get a huge thump through the woofers. The alternator is a CS130 putting out105 amps. The fans turn on/off with a thermo switch through a pair of relays. The sub amp is running 6 gauge power wire directly off the battery and the fans' main power feed off the alternator. It sounds to me like the fans are causing the alternator to suddenly put out some juice and the sudden power output is causing a surge through the system resulting in a huge thump through the woofers. Am I on the right track or way off base? (no pun intended) Will one of those big capacitors in the power line to the amp absorb the surge or do I need to try something else? Thanks. cYa- Herb Lumpp1966 El CaminoACES 3509, MCC 528http://users.adelphia.net/~hlump/

Re: [Chevelle-List] New Chevelle club forming in South-West Ohio
I helped start up a club in my home town and the very first thing that you need to do is get a tax id#... Second hold meetings and elect positions...each position has their own responsibility. I ended up not staying with the club for personal reasons between me and the pres. but that is another story. I also designed the logo for this club... While there is one club in Ohio already, it's farther than most of us in South West Ohio ( maybe northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana?)are willing to drive to attend meetings. The idea is to only recruit those unwilling/unable to join the current club in Columbus, and to be brother clubs to include combined cruise-ins. I am interested in talking to people that got new clubs off the ground, learn about club charter, rules, and the good, bad and ugly on affiliations. What are the benefits of talking to local businesses to your club? I am thinking that if we can get discounts for club members and provide information on what businesses can provide what services this would be a win-win. Any other advice and do's and don't 's would be appreciated. Thanks! Re: [Chevelle-List] Acid/Chemical Dipping
We chemical dipped my dad's 62 Impala...all I can say is 'awesome' It is worth the money because if you are going to do it, you want to do it right. If there is ANY rust whatsoever it will be gone. It will also let you see where your problem areas are to repair. When you get it back it will look like brand new metal. His car has been on bare metal (in Ohio to boot) for a few months now and NO surface rusting. The metal will turn a darker color but that is about it. Granted it is in a garage and not sitting out though. I am going to have the same place do my chevelle when I get to that point. As for now I am still collecting parts for it. For sheet metal parts(hood, fenders, doors, etc.)You could also use a plastic bead abrasive. Sand will heat up the sheetmetal too much and cause warpage.
