[Chevelle-list] Header removal

2004-02-19 Thread LandMMilano

I have a 69 4spd big block and I am having a rough
time getting the driver's side header off. The passenger side came out
from the bottom, but the driver's side hits the clutch, steering, etc. so,
unbolted motor and moved steering column out of way and it still will not come
out the top. Any secrets I am missing?

Fw: [Chevelle-list] Header removal

2004-02-19 Thread LandMMilano

Tried removing the old filter and still no
luck. It appears that it may come out from the bottom the best. The
clutch linkage is the only thing I can see holding it back. I am def. not
a pro with anything to do with clutches so is there anything I should look out
for taking the linkage apart. You are right, I do NOT want to have to take
the head off. They are some kind of aftermarket cheap crap header, two of
the four pipes were smashed about half closed so I have some Hooker's in the box
waiting to go on it.

Believe me I have thought that many times, but I
don't have a cutting torch available. I guess I could rent
one.

Maybe you should cut them up to get them off, if they are old
crap? Perhaps your new headers are a different shape and might slide
in? Just an idea. Don't kill yourself trying to get aftermarket
  cheap crap headers off!

Re: [Chevelle-list] Flowmaster's 30 series or 40 delta flow series

2003-10-30 Thread LandMMilano

yea, there is 4 inches diff. in the two
sizes, the motor is a stock 396 with hooker headers, the exhaust on
it now is "original" and has a few holes in the pipes behind the mufflers.
also the exhaust will run out the back to the bumper a full system.., no turn
downs. I will prob. stay with the 30's, buy the wayI am looking at a
2.5in system.

  The
biggest difference between the 30 and 40 series is the physical dimensions of
the muffler itself. 50 series are the same physical size as the 30 series, but
are quieter. I have 50s on a SBC and they sound great IMO. I am glad I didn’t
  get the louder ones.

buick gsand the 40 delta flow for a camaro, mustang,
firebird.Hmm,most of the camaro, mustangs I know have small
blocks, my chevelle is a BB. Does anyone have BB with 40'son

  Hi Guys, I recently bought
original flows 40 series for my 383 equipped 65 elky. I have dyno max headers,
2 1/2" pipes, a Dr gas X pipe with outlets just after the rear wheels and it
sounds perfect. I had a set of Summit turbos on this car with the same
setup.too loud..lots of resonance, I replaced them with Dynomax super
turbostoo quiet...couldn`t even hear the rump of the camswitched to
the present 40`s expecting resonance, and was totally surprised that is is
minimal. The X pipe has a lot to do with it, I think the X pipe is an
investment well worth the money. I now have what I believe is the perfect
exhaust note. You can hear all the rump of the cam, excellent sound outside
the vehicle and just righjt inside. The best part is the 40`s are all over
ebay for about $45 delivered. just my $.02. Bob Myers, SD

Fellas,I have the same problem on
a 66 SS BB and I'm looking into a mini starter to rid myself of this problem
because these work with teeth so I'm told versus a stock type with a solenoid.
I really don't know much about it but I'm tired of taking my car out and not
being able to turn it off for fear of being stuck for a while. Been there done
that don't like it. Any help would be
  appreciated

A question to the fellow header-users out there...

Is it pretty much a rule of thumb to have to use a
starter heat shield if you have headers? I keep
having problems starting my motor after it's been run
for a while, but if I give it a few hours and fires
right up. I'm pretty certain that it's the starter
getting hot, but this is my first time having headers
on an SBC and wondered if it was a common problem.

 Thanks,

 Jim

[Chevelle-list] recommended headers 69 396

2003-07-31 Thread LandMMilano

not sure what I have on now but they are beat in on
3 or 4 of the tubes and hang so low they scrape over the smallest bump. I
would like to install them myself without having to unbolt motor mounts or mash
in a pipe. I think I had headman's on my old 69 with a small block and
they came so close to the oil filter they melted a portion of it and I had to
loosen the header to change the filter. I would like to avoid all these
problems, any suggestions or headers in use that meet these requirements.
pipe size does not matter, by the way 396 no a/c, ps,pb
thanks

  Yes.
Buick Olds and Pontiac A-body cars all had carpet on the lower portion of the
door panel in 1969 (but not Chevy).
