Re: [Chevelle-List] To Clone or not to Clone?

2002-05-10 Thread Mistbluemalibu
There are way to many clones out there, it is sooo played out, please don't do it.  There is nothing wrong with a malibu, in fact it's nice to see a malibu restored.

Re: [Chevelle-List] a/c conversions

2002-04-19 Thread Mistbluemalibu
Jason,
I don't know much about automotive a/c, but I have worked on commercial refrigeration units that were originally R-12 units and used a drop in replacement to recharge such as R-409a and ICOR hot shot without retrofitting ANYTHING.  I just replace the filter dryer with an identical one, and pull a very deep vacum before charging.  I don't know why we can't do this on cars other than the fact that people in the automotive buisness want to make money by selling retrofit kits.  I guess the R-409a head pressure is a little high for hoses, but there are other R-12 drop in replacements now.  The just come in a 24 pound bottle.

Can anyone tell me why we can't use a drop in replacement in cars?

Re: [Chevelle-List] Horn

2002-04-09 Thread Mistbluemalibu
Of my two horns only one worked, and it sounded very weak.  The weak sound coming from only one note horn was pretty sad.  I found a pair at a junk yard, but they did not work either.  So since I had two of each note to play with I started banging a totally dead one on the drive way and shaking the dirt out of it.  I also blew compressed air into it and turned the screw back and forth.  When I connected it to the battery I was suprised to hear some life squeak out of it.  The more I banged it and shook it and blew it out and tweaked the screw, the stronger it got.  Out of the four bad horns I ended up with a really strong high note and low note that sound great together.  I have a strong chevelle horn now out of horns I got at a junk yard.

Of course now I see they have them new, availible in catalouges.

Lance,

I don't know if you are the one that checked out mine at Super Chevy in Pomona, but if you are, I hope seeing mine will put you in the right location.  Good luck with your car, and check out our club's website events page (www.chevelles.net/s) and come say hi to us someday.

Re: [Chevelle-List] sound system options for66

2002-02-14 Thread Mistbluemalibu
I have a 66 malibu, the system in it not is not professionaly intalled, I did it my self.
I have a custom auto sound shaft unit in the dash.  RCA outputs send signal to a multi channel amp in the trunk.  The one 6 x 9 hole in the center of the rear deck has a dual voice coil 6 X 9 which allows me to send the right and left channel to it.  It is mounted underneath , with a stock chevy speaker grill on top.  An internal crossover in the amp sends a low end bass signal, right and left channel to two 10 inch subwolfers that I held up against the back seat until the holes lined up with the crossmembers and zipped in with screws.  Up front I have those pre fab kick panels with speakers built in them from custom autosound.  The are the whimpy low wattage ones because there is not enough clearance for the bigger magnets They get signal directly from the stereo speaker wiring, the stereo has a pre amp built in it. This system has limitations as far as sound quality goes, but I still crank it up!

Re: [Chevelle-List] rear suspension question

2002-01-28 Thread Mistbluemalibu
When I first got my chevelle and had an alignment done, the guy indicated that the rear alignment was off.  Not because its adjustable but because the old rubber bushings wore in that way because the car does not have posi, and it was allways the same wheel loading the suspension.  I don't know if anyone has heard of this before, but I guess it's too late to check now that the rear end is out.

Cracking at the lock hole while handling it, that happened to me also.  Fourtunatley the crack is not big enough to be seen and is still covered by the bezel nut.  I have not seen a repro yet, so if you find a good used one, be very carefull when handling and installing it.  If you bend it, it will crack right at that hole.  I am also curious what the picture in the OPG catalouge refers to.

LS7 or LSD, you can really burn out with one, and leave trails with the other.  Or was it the other way around?

1966 Mist Blue is a great color on Chevelles.  I Just personally like metallic blues and metallic greens on chevelles and Impalas.  But it is nice to have a Chevelle painted the original color, no matter how dull you think it might look.

Re: [Chevelle-List] 0, 30, 60 degree paint

2002-01-18 Thread Mistbluemalibu
I plan on using the eastwood spray cans myself, chassis black, under hood black, radiator black, and they have different grays.  I expect they will be close enough to the correct degree of sheen.  I have also heard that you can get a barbeque paint in a spray can at some hardware stores that has a sheen that looks pretty good.  As far as the regular spray paint that is availible, flat will be too flat, and semi gloss will be too shiny for inner fenders and such.
