[Chevelle-list] 67 Chevelle - Wheel Well moldings

2005-03-09 Thread Phil Adams
I just received my Chevelle back from the paint shop and went to install
the wheel well moldings, the contour doesn't match very well (Made in
Taiwan) does any one know 1.) Do you have to attach one end and walk the
molding around the wheel well? Or 2.) Is there a wheel well molding for a 67
that someone was please with and fit the car?

Thanks in advance for your input.

The 2 products that seem to make the best sense are POR-15 with a topcoat of

stock color splatercoat over it.

Also, any input on local So Cal, LA, San Fernando / San Gabriel Valley

WOW - Just checked the Dougs web site. When I bought my set he
wouldn't sell direct, but he gave me the number of a dealer. He
recommended the 375Y's for my application. They were about $300
back then & the ceramic coating was not an option. I thought that was
an expensive price. Now they are $535 with the ceramic a $175 dollar
option - which is worth it if you can afford it.

They have 2 or 3 different models for chevelles, so I'd talk directly to
someone & determine exactly which set is right for you.

Real
Acceleration
Some of us may think
we have experienced acceleration g forces, but read this to get a grip of what real acceleration
is. But first, some useful info: One Top Fuel dragster
500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepowerthan the first 4 rows at the NASCAR Daytona
500. Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1 1/2 gallons
of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded
747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with
25% less energy being produced. A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot
produce enough power to drive the dragster
supercharger. With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the
supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture is
compressed into a near-solid form before ignition.Cylinders run on the
verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle. At the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the
flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees
F. Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen
above the stacks at night is raw burning
hydrogen, dissociated from atmosphericwater vapor by the searing exhaust
gases. Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the
output of an arc welder in each
cylinder. Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during one
pass. Afterhalf-way, the engine is dieseling
from compression plus the glow of exhaust valvesat 1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down by
cutting the fuel flow. If spark momentarily fails early in the run,
unburned nitro builds up inthe affected
cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blowcylinder heads off the block in pieces or split the
block in half. In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds dragsters
must accelerate at an average of over 4G's. In
order to reach 200 mph well before half-track, the launch acceleration approaches 8G's. Dragsters
reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this sentence. Top Fuel Engines turn
approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! Including the
burnout the engine must only survive 900 revolutions
under load. The red-line is actually quite high at 9500
rpm. The Bottom Line; Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the
crew workedfor free, and for once NOTHING
BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimated US $1,000.00
per second. The current Top Fuel dragster elapsed time
record is 4.441 seconds for the quarter mile
(10/05/03 Tony Shumacher) The top speed record is 333.00 mph (533
km/h) as measured over the last 66' of the run (09/28/03 Doug Kalitta). Putting all of this into
perspective: You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter "twin-turbo" powered Corvette Z06. Over a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is
staged and ready to launch down a quarter mile
strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a
flying start. You run the 'Vette hard up through the
gears and blast across the starting line and
past the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The
'tree' goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard,
but you hearan incredibly brutal whine that
sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds the dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish
line, a quarter mile away from where you just
passed him. Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and not only
caught, butnearly blasted you off the road
when he passed you within a mere 1320 foot long race course. That, folks,
is acceleration.

[Chevelle-list] Doug's tri-y headers for a 67 Chevelle BB

2004-11-05 Thread Phil Adams
Hey Guys,

Do you have contact info for Doug's or someone else in the So Cal area. I
need to replace the set of Hedmans on my BB 67 Chevelle due to steering
column clearance issues and previous owner use of a sledge to get them in, a
bit unsightly, hammered off the ceramic coating and they are beginning to
rust. Also, does anyone know where I can get a New / Used trans cross
member, they also beat the hell out of that to accommodate the 3" exhaust
tubes.

Thanks

Dave:
I think we spoke before I tried the Hedmans two years ago, which is why
I bought them.

The problem was on the drivers side. I got them in position ok (I think I
had to jack up the engine), but after I bolted them snug to the head, they
hit the cross member. I determined they would have fit fine if the flange
was at a sightly steeper angle with respect to the head. In other words, if
I loosened the header bolts slightly, the header would clear fine, but
tightening the bolts forced one of the tubes to hit the cross member. I
suspect the header flange was welded on at the wrong angle. Rather than
exchange them for another pair, someone on this list steered me to the
Sandersons, which were great for a mild 350. Summit took the Hedmans back,
no questions asked.

Tom

2 1/4" headers are way too big for a 427". My
choice would be some 1 7/8" Sanderson intermediates,if you want something that
will give maximum ground clearance. Don't understand why you don't want
stainless headers,as it seems like funds aren't a problem. Stainless Works can
build you a pair of 1 3/4",1 7/8",or 2" tubes that will tuck up tightly for
around $600. Heck,a pair of Sandersons will cost over $500.
As for a radiator choice,my first pick would a Ron
Davis set-up with dual electric fans.
Are you anywhere near Houston,Tx?

Phil, Check with Haegerty or Grundy or Condon and
Skelly etc. The list is long and they should all be cheaper than your standard
Insurance provider. Google "collector car insurance" for a whole bunch
more.

  I was reading
someone's else's inquiry about Hot Rod Insurance and was wondering if there
are special insurance companies for collector cars / vintage cars & Rods?
I just purchased a BB 67 Chevelle Street Rod with NOS and was going to my
regular insurance company (Farmers) to get it insured. If there are specialty
  companies, please name a couple.

  Thanks
