[Chevelle-list] GM 572 Pricing
I was at Pace Performance today and got some new info. on the GM 572 crate motors. The ZZ572/620 hp is available although it's on back order. They've already shipped one overseas. The cost for the Deluxe 572, carb to pan, is $12,999.00. It can also be purchased unassembled or I believe as a short block. Didn't get those prices. The 572R/720hp still doesn't have a price or availability. If you have any questions, give Ron Jones a call at Pace Performance/ 800-748-3791. Mark 80 Malibu 402/700r4

Re: [Chevelle-list] 200R4 success stories? was: Trans cooler
The name of the trans shop is Janis Transmission. They're number is 330-753-6609. This guy races a GN which is the test bed for his work. His father started the business about 40 years ago so he's grown up around building and racing. He's got a great reputation with the local GN racers and street guys in the area. He's good. His name is Vince. Hope this helps. Mark
Re: [Chevelle-list] 200R4 success stories? was: Trans cooler
There's a guy here in Akron that builds 2004r's for GN guys around the country. He'll build it to stand up to as much as 1000hp. He's had great success. If you're interested in talking to him, let me know and I'll post his number. He's in Akron, Ohio. Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] G Body Gurus
Wayne, Try maliburacing.com and check the tech section. They have a "how to" for working on columns. If that doesn't do it go to the forums and post your question in the tech section. Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] 200R4 trans
Hi Dan, The shop number for Janis Transmission is 330-753-6609. They're located in Akron, Ohio. The owners name is Vince and he's been building 200r4's for GN racers for at least a few years. He's been shipping these all over the country. He can build a race ready trans for as little as $750.00 up to a bullit proof trans with a billet shaft (will take about 1000hp) for $2200.00. The guy is very good. It's kind of his specialty. Give him a call. He'll gladly work with you. Hope this helps. Tell him you called from the Chevelle list. Mark Holman
Re: [Chevelle-List] crate motor question
Mitch, My experience is "you get what you pay for". I work for Jasper Engines and we're the forth largest customer of Fed. Mogul only behind the BIG 3 and we can't come close to those dollars. I've looked at alot of crates and I agree, that has to be a short block. If you're interested, you may want to look at Jasperengines.com and look at ours. No sales pitchjust my .02. Good Luck. Remember-the bitterness of poor quality last long after sweetness of a good deal. Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] Transmission Bad.
Mark, I've got a 700r4 behind a 402 big block and so far it's been working great. I've got stock heads with a mild port job and a Comp XE274 cam. I'm also running a 3.73 gear. The 3.04 first gear in the tranny w/3.73 rear works great and at 70 mph I'm turning 2300 RPM's. Mine does have a shift kit and it hits 2nd gear pretty hard (but that's just fine). Hope that helps. Re: [Chevelle-List] installing a distributor help
I take it your all set. I'm glad I could help. Have fun. Happy Easter! Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] installing a distributor help
Hi Michael, As long as you know the distributors are compatible, first mark the wires and their position on the cap.Pull off the vacuum advance hose if there is one. Next, pull the cap and mark where the rotor is pointing and then reference the body of the distributor to somewhere on the car. Pull out the distributor slowly so you don't move the oil pump tab. When reinstalling the distributor, turn the rotor a little more counterclockwise from your mark. When you install the distributor and the dist. gear engages with the cam gear it will rotate slightly clockwise. When it's all the way it it will seat flush to the intake face. If it's off one toothe one way or the other in refernce to the cam and oil pump tab it wall not seat all the way flush. Line your housing mark up and swap your plug wires and your ready to go. Oh, tighten down the distributor. If everything lines up, you probably won't need to re-time the car. You may want to re-check it anyway. Good luck. Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] installing a distributor help
You're going to need to attach a vacuum hose which is very small in diameter (not sure what size but a parts store knows) from the distributor advance nipple to a carb. port. There has been this discussion before as to which port (timed, not timed). The port on the carb is on the base and is also very small, similar to size of vac. advance port on dist.. It's a simple connection. Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] Carb and Headers
I've used the Flowtech on a "79" El Camino and was very happy with them. Had to dipple the one tube a little at the A frame but was fine other than that. I've never used Dynomax so I can't tell you how they compare. From my experience I would recommend the Flowtech. Mark

Re: [Chevelle-List] Summit Racing
Wayne, Go easy on those pullers in the back. I used to pull parts there part time for the counter and we did make a few mistakes but the guys that take them out to you at the counter are supposed to check the parts against the order first. They're usually pretty good though. Summit branded parts are for the most part (sorry for the pun) private labeled by the majors like Crane, etc. That's why they're priced close. Not everything though is done this way. Some stuff is outsourced. They're usually VERY good for customer service problems though should there be a problem. And yes, Norwalk is a very nice track! Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] Auto Lifts in your garage ?
The EPA has a real problem with "pits" because of circulation and drainage issues. To commercially build a pit to code ,I think, is so expensive and they're so difficult and such a pain in the butt that everyone just went to lifts. There's alot of cheapie lifts out there so be careful. There's only one you, what are you worth? Mark

No problem. You gotta love urban legends. So, has anyone seen Susquach lately? Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] Redundant question: tire size for 67 Chevelle SS
Rotating your tires from side to side will still extend the life of your tires over non-rotation. Besides, bigger tires in the rear just looks cool (as long as they don't stick out past the fender well). Most people never rotate their tires and they still get big miles out of them. Just watch your alignment, that'll do the damage. Mark
Re: [Chevelle-List] RE: Redundant question: tire size for 67 Chevelle SS
I've worked in the tire industry for over 13 years, 7 of which as a Hunter alignment rep. I've never heard of not being able to reverse the direction of a radial doing a rotation. John is right, inflation is also very important. Excessive heat build up will destroy a tire faster than anythingremember Firestone. Mark
