That's how we did it,Kim. My chassis shop built my rear end to fit my 17"
wheels and tires. My 17x13's have 7" of backspace. Wasn't sure I wanted more
because of the knockoffs.

34'' is too narrow, I don't remember the right dimensions but it's over 40
no matter what backspace you have. Is it 34'' to the housing flange or the
axle flange? The axles add about 5''.
We prefer to get the wheels first then make the housing fit them you can get
the wheels exactly where you want them that way. My car is not tubbed, it
has 17 X 9 1/2 rims with 3 1/2 B.S. the rearend is 56 1/2 to the axle
flange. The range of backspacing on wheels is 3 1/2 to around 6 1/2, go with
less because it makes the wheel look wider.

I just removed a 48" wide 9" Ford from under my 69 El Camino
with 15x14 Centerlines & 18.5x29.15 MT Sportsmans. 34" is way too narrow for
your '71,IMO.

For those of you that have knowledge in narrowing Chevelles, i have
an important question that needs an answer within 3-4 days.

I have located a narrowed rear end for my pro street project that
measures 34 inches (flange to flange).

Do you think this rear end width is about right for a 71 Chevelle?
I know backspacing can be altered to acquire a better fit, but does the
width seem to be in the correct range for my 71 project with 15x14 rims
on 31x18.5 mickeys.

Please give me your comments or suggestions concerning this
rearend. If i get it, i need to make it happen within 3-4 days.

Or if you know of a company that may be able to answer this
question it too would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks a million,
Kyle Bennett
