For someone who has done all this rewiring and restoring, you sure seem to have a lot of problems with three wires for a radio, but a lot of people were only trying to help you, as I was only trying to help someone do something that is an easy chore for me, but I guess not for you. So if you misinterpreted any thing I said as anything other than trying to give helpful advice, than the problem is yours! Well then Rocky, I suppose since I had replied earlier to explain how I removed my switch, and then your reply came through with the words "you guys", I believed I was one of those "guys". RE: [Chevelle-List] 66 Wiper Switch Gymnastics
Title: Message Having dropped the dash quite a few times over the years, wires shouldn't be supporting it as it's not really going to "drop" but it'll actually come down and forward allowing you to get your hand to the wiring at the back of the switch. There's so much more holding the dash in place (such as the steering column) that unless you really yank on it it's not going to disturb the other wiring. Personally, I also like to drop the steering wheel out of the way so I'm not reaching around and/or through the spokes. I can't say I disagree with the service manual but I'm sure it doesn't list more than one way to do the job. I'm relatively small and have small hands and it was always a PITA to change any of the switches behind the dash by going from the bottom side. As always, do what you feel comfortable with. But I'd bet that one or two adventures of groping for wires, unplugging things by accident, and skinning knuckles trying to get the wiring harness off the back of the switch with the safety ears intact, and you'll start looking for easier ways to do the same job. Dale on reflection your dash will be hanging by all its wiring unless you disconnect and label each connection.to just replace the wiper switch it seems like a lot of work .just checked in the service manual they say the gymnastics way.

Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Wiper Switch Gymnastics
Tim, If you look at the dash there are 9 screws that run around the dash under the dash pad, remove these and the 2 bolts that are under the dash at each end, remove the cover that is under the the steering column, where it comes throught the bottom part of the dash, there is a small bracket that holds the steering column up, take these off. (Two nuts) the dash should drop down, the switches are mounted to the dash strip that is attached to the dash, and at this point all of the switches are reachable from the top, this whole procedure takes me about 20 min. Re: [Chevelle-List] 66 Wiper Switch Gymnastics
Rocky, On my 65, the dash was in integral part of the car. It was welded to the body and not removable. Removing the bezel meant also unhooking the ignition switch, light switch, speedo, lighter, radio, and about 10 little light bulbs. It would be much easier to do the contortionist act than to pull the bezel. That's my story and I'm sticking to it..
