John, you can buy that stuff at a Marine supply in 25' rolls if your
interior is black or white. And the marine windless has stainless metal
backbone.

2004-05-11 Thread John Nasta
BTW, the El Camino is pretty much finished and I do plan to sell it. I still
need to do the sail panels, sill plates, armrests & handles, but that's
about it for cosmetics. Mechanically, I have to install the vac modulator
line, get the Flowmaster pipes welded to my down-pipes, and get the wheels
aligned.

I know lots of you think I shouldn't sell this car, but I really have no
place to keep it. It's been at a friend's house for about a year now and his
wife wants to see it go.

Contact me if interested.

I'm thinking they'll work though.

The front & rear ones are rubber. Nice but expensive.

Even though it took two years and too much money to get body work and paint
done on my Elky, I guess I got lucky when I found the Cobbler's Shop.
Honestly, the only reason it took two years was because my finances didn't
allow it to go any faster! And not once in the two years he had it was I
concerned about the quality of work being done.

It must have had something to do with the fact that the shop didn't do any
insurance work and each employee was an enthusiast in his area of expertise.

Thanks Jason,

I finally got to an agreement with him. He is going to paint the car and
he
promises to have it ready within 2 weeks. I am then going to pick it up
and
put all of the trim & weatherstrips back on myself. This has been taking
way
too long and I need to get it wrapped up, but if I had to take it home
with
no paint on it, I would have to hear the next guy's story about how he
has
to take it all down because he doesn't know what's under it, yada yada
yada,
and I would be out much more money.

So, it looks like it will be home in 2 weeks painted, and that's enough
to
make me happy. Now I'm going to have to put it back together "in my
spare
time" which I wasn't counting on, but it's not the worst that could
happen.

2003-03-28 Thread Craig Ellis
I noticed Clint mentioned how paint was such a priority. I have to confess,
I accepted some flaws in my car to get one with stellar body work and
excellent paint. There are SO many guys in the paint & body business that
have been sniffing fumes too long or, as Clint pointed out, on the insurance
gravy train. A couple years ago, I asked a local shop to put a trunk pan in
a '72 Chevelle I had at the time and he laughed. He would not even LOOK at
it, let alone bother giving me a quote. Really - he would not even look at
the car!

Boy, I'm in the wrong business...

do the other work myself, but I didn't spend all this money for it to end up

baby pool - was RE: [Chevelle-List] 69 El Camino update

2003-01-27 Thread John Nasta
I figured I'd change the subject since it wasn't really clear, but I'm
having a "baby pool" for the birth of my El Camino. Details are below.

John Nasta

-Original Message-

I'm thinking about starting a "baby pool" of sorts, meaning that the person
who guesses closest to the day Ron says that it's finished and I can come
pick it up (the day it's "born") wins a $25 gift certificate to Old Car
Network. If there is a tie, I'll give out 2 gift certificates, and if there
are more than 2 winners $50 will be split between them. One vote per person,
nothing to lose. Keep in mind that it's the day Ron says it's finished, not
the day I pick it up, so it could be a weekday or a weekend, and I have no
control over when it will be. Contact me privately by email if interested.
Guesses sent to the list don't count because I don't want everybody knowing
what everybody else is guessing.

Well, Ron says that it's too cold to spray paint and too expensive to get
his shop up to the right temperature (it's a cinderblock building w/ no

that I am anxious to get it over with and says he will get back on it as
soon as we get a break in the weather. It already has 2 coats of primer and
he says he wants to prime & block it one more time, then it gets paint and
all the trim, weatherstrip, bumpers, etc. put back on.

[Chevelle-List] 69 el camino update

2002-06-20 Thread John Nasta

Sine the last pix that made it to the web site, the floor has been patched,
sealed, and sprayed with a rubberized sound deadener, and the whole body has
been primed (exc. the new hood) and spot-puttied and sanded again. The front
clip has also all been bolted down and lined up (hopefully not in that
order). The new SS hood is on, and will get the next coat of primer. The
interior is painted, and the new dash pad is on (and fits and looks great,
thank you very much).

So, she's definitely coming along. I have a bunch of new pictures and will
try to get them onto my El Camino resto web site soon.
