[Chevelle-List] Bullet Mirrors

2002-11-24 Thread D.R. Jones
I had the passenger door bullet mirror disappear off my 72 El Camino
while it was at a body shop. Contacted Chicago Muscle and they found me
a very nice pair at a reasonable cost, also supplied new gaskets.
Memory fails on the exact cost but it was agreeable or I would have
remembered otherwise. They have new and used parts. Now, for parts, I
will contact John Nasta first and go from there, with Chicago Muscle
being one of the secondary contacts.

I forgot to mention that--

I got my new gaskets from Classic Industries .. Application was the F-body
bullet mirrors... The holes underneath the mirror aren't 100% correct but
they worked and it's something you can't see from the outside of the car and
something that doesn't affect the performance at all.. If I remember
correctly they were like $11 for the gaskets or something..

On 70-72 Chevelles the "Upper Ledge is wider & the Radius of the door panel is different & there is a body sculpture line in the Chevelle that the Elkys don't have. Ft Fenders are also different. 70-72 Chevelle wagons & Elkys are the same though. I'm not sure but believe 68-69 Chevelles & Elkys doors & fenders will interchange.

RE: [Chevelle-List] Bullet Mirrors

2002-11-23 Thread Dale McIntosh
I scrounged a pair of bullet mirrors from a late 60/early 70 Buick
Skylark or Olds Cutlass (too much of it was gone and I didn't care
anyway). Finding the right angle is the problem. I already had the car
painted when I wanted to change out some very old Roberk plastic-type
bullet/sport mirrors. These fit the mounting holes exactly but they sit
closer to the body and now my vent wings don't open but maybe an inch or
so. Bummer!

If you're not too concerned with originality, check the wreckers for
'80s bullet mirrors. They have a gasket between the body and the
mirror which was body-specific. I got a pair from a Caprice that,
when bolted to my 67, were not level. However, a pair of gaskets from
a Monte Carlo were just the ticket.

Thanks Jim,  I'll have to do some further research on th El Camino because of the big differences in the Chevelle & the Ekly doors a set of bullet mirrors from a chevelle probably won't work on the Elky.

Re: [Chevelle-List] Bullet Mirrors

2002-11-23 Thread Spatch

Bullet mirrors were on option on 72
Chevelles.  Not 100% sure on 71 but I think they were an option as
well.  Usually the bullet mirror came in driver-side only
configurations with dealerships adding the passenger side.

From my Chevelle Restoration
Guide:

"For 1971 and 1972... However custom bullet
mirrors, RPO D35, were available for these two years.  With the SS package
the driver's side mirror was remote control and was listed as part number
9878201.  the body of the mirror was painted to match the color of the
car.  This option is not well known and is fairly rare.  It was
available only as a factory-installed option."

Did the 64 Chevelle have a passenger side
mirror?  I would like to put one on, but I would like to know if this will
take away from the originality of the car.
