www.mortec.com/ is a good site for decoding numbers for big or small
blocksheads.

--Thanks guys, the caddy motor is a 1968 472 with 375hp @ 4400 and 525 torq at 3000
rpm and 10.5:1 compression ratiowow, thats stock! oh no, somethings going to brake
;)

Is it true that a caddy motor only weighs about 40lbs more that a 350? and that a
caddy weighs in at around 5000 lbs and chevelles only weigh about 3000+ lbs...

wow I can't wait to get this on the road! anyone out there have extra parts for a 1972?

thanks again guys and gals!

Michael,

I hope you have an older Caddy engine than Sarah lists below. The 1969 version of the
472 had 10.5:1 compression, 375 HP at 4400 RPM, 525 lb-ft torque at 3000 RPM. The
1970 version had 10:1 compression, same HP and torque rating (hmmm?). The 1971
version had 8.5:1 compression, 345 HP at 4400 RPM, 500 ft-lb torque at 2800 RPM.

Good deal, don't know the specs, but that's a much better motor.
