Having similar past experiences, I'd say it would be much easier to just replace the whole harness with a brand new one. Trying to figure out what needs fixed, fixing it, and even trying to fix other people's "fixes" can be a nightmare, tedious and frustrating at least. My under dash harness had been on fire before I got it. Talk about messed up. I spent years fiddling with it because I couldn't afford a new harness. That, and 17 years ago we didn't have the great choices we have today. Go for it! and save yourself some time and frustration. I don't know, I have never rewired a dash,
therefore I cannot tell how diffucult it is. But There are a lot of people
here who have done it. I've heard both sides, its very hard, or its very
easy. Depends on how good u are with wires.

Ok, look, the black wire goes to a ground on a metal surface, I used the
firewall. The white wire goes to the ilumination light on the
dash, which brightens the tach at night. I think the green wire
goes to the negative terminal on the coil, and the red goes to the
fuse box.
