Re: [Chevelle-List] Points or Participant Voting

2002-06-14 Thread John Figuracion

OK here is my two cents...

The MCC show was participant judged for I believe 12 years. The last few
years we had gotten requests from the participants to change to a points
system. No biases or cliques, only competing against yourself. Contrary to
what most people think the people in shows are always very knowledgable. I
have been to many participant judged shows that people would just let
their kids pick the cars

Parent: "Which car should I pick?"
Child: "I like the red cars!"
The car could be a POS and the parent just doesn't care!

MCC has switched to a points system and the last couple of years it has
been working well. There is less fussing and the participants love it.
Especially since we are a two day show, the participants really only need
to be there one of the two days. Many times the participant judges would
turn their ballots in before all cars were on the show field!

I like participant judged shows like Chevellabration, because there mostly
everyone knows what makes a quality car. And there isn't the "clique"
mentality. Winning there makes a person feel a great appreciation that
their peers think highly of their cars. The points shows allow someone to
be able to see how their car judges against a benchmark.

Both kinds of shows work. I think it all comes down to what the
participants want and what works for the organizers. I know that it takes
a lot of manpower to judge over 130 chevelles over 2 days! And I really
wouldn't expect Chuck to try to organize that for Chevellabration and 400
cars. Besides it all comes down to the feel of the show. Give the people
what they want and I guarantee that you'll please at least half of them
:o)

ok time for someone else's opinion!

I think it should be different voting for different awards.
For example participant trophys should be judged by participants.
They are the ones that know most about the cars.
There should be catagories for both.
I sound like a politician.
Clique voting hurts the reputation of the show and
the hobby as well.

Dale,
I don't care who sponsers the show, Chevelle only or
otherwise, I feel the same.

I guess I should have been more specific up front. I'm talking
Chevelle-only shows here, like the Regionals-type events, not the local car
club shows.

Re: [Chevelle-List] Points or Participant Voting

2002-06-13 Thread Keith Cooper

I feel that I saw the same thing on some of the shows that I have been to. I
have mixed feelings about it. First, I would like my car to be judge fairly.
If a car group is sponsoring the show or having the show, you can only
expect them to only vote for each other. This is not right, and is not a
good way to get new members to join. I think that it is sad that people and
car groups do this. If I was in a car group, (and I am not) I would again
want my car to voted on Only if it had merit, and not because I am a member
of the club. I want to know what everyone really thinks about the car. This
way, if I win and can really enjoy. Now I go just because I want to meet new
people and just show off the car. I am not interested in Trophies anymore. A
trophy will not make me or my car any more or any less. I know what I did to
restore it and I am very proud of my car. That is all that counts.

2002-06-12 Thread rocky hill

Dale,
I have seen this from both sides, it has came down to
I will not show in a participant judged event, I don't
want you to think I am crying sour grapes because
thats not the case at all!
I have seen the good ole boy clique take over more
times than I can count, I have seen many cars more
worthy than mine get passed over because of a certain
group of cars/clubs/people seemed to rule the roost.
so when it comes to participant judged shows, I don't
waste my money, time or effort, and I leave my car in
the garage!
I would much rather have someone judge my car by a
set of standards, against all the cars in my class. I
feel that if my car is judged on it's own merit
against the other cars on a point system, it just seem
more of a fair shake to me. thats my opinion.

[Chevelle-List] Points or Participant Voting

2002-06-12 Thread 396guy

Since there is a great variety of members on the list I thought this would
be a good way to get a cross section of opinions on regional Chevelle shows.
Three of the five ACES affiliated Regional Chevelle shows are participant
judged (plus CB of course) and two are point judged.

As the Chevelle enthusiast, which do you prefer and why? This will probably
boil down to two camps; participant because attendees go to have fun and
welcome the association of others although someone invariably claims "block"
or "clique" voting and point judged for those that want competition of their
car against another and can stand the cut throat approach. Both have their
good and bad sides in my opinion but what do you think? If you had a choice
to go to one or the other, which would you choose?
