[Chevelle-list] Doors Not Opening

2008-12-10 Thread Daniel Jones
Last time I wrote I had a problem with the doors on my 72 El Camino not
opening. Have them both open now and found out the problem. At some point
in the vehicles life before I purchased it in 1985 someone had greased the
door latch mechanisms with what appears to be chassis grease. As we all
know when chassis grease sets up for a long time it becomes very hard.
Apparently this is what happened as I very rarely drive this vehicle. I
have soaked both of them in solvent and they work somewhat. Think I will
replace them with new ones before putting the doors back together. If
anyone else runs into this problem I can guide you thru the technique of how
to open them. Now I can get on with redoing the rest of the vehicle.

Physically 68-72, 68 or 69 might have the door lock button in a different
place. You might need to check on that. I tried looking at the interior
section at the el camino store to see if they differentiated but couldn't
sypher it myself.

..or am I looking at buying a couple of shells? If
so, how many companies are stamping them out,and what brand should I
buy?

Thanks,

Kyle,
If you can't find any decent used doors, we can supply you with brand new
reproduction door shells for your 69.  They run $369.95 each.  Good luck!

I did 69 doors to 68 car and the window crank
was a different location and door lock stem was also. I reworked the door lock
stem and got new door panels with no window crank stem punched out yet and put
it were I needed it.

Here is a link to the interior picture of it. You
can't see to much.

They will fit with some slight modifications.  The top parts and
some inner parts have to be swapped out. I have done this before. But isn't the
door handle located in different position ? The change may make you have to
use the 68 door panels if using the 68 door.Best deal would to find the right
  doors.

As I have understood it they are not because 68's have vent windows and 69' do
not.

I'm trying to locate some 69 doors that

I have 2 questions for the experts.

   1: Will 1968 elcamino doors fit 1969
or what years go together?

2: Does any one near Canada have a
pair of 1969 (1968 if they will work) chevelle door's in good shape they would
like to sell?

I checked over a pair of elcamino doors to rework
for the chevelle, but too much work.

Thank you
