[Chevelle-list] rear end question
I am in the market for new rear end gears for my 70 Nova that now has a 2.56 (stock). I plan to get a 3.08 posi since I have a 700-R4 and the rpm's are only 1,450 @ 60 mph now and the 3.08 should raise that to 1,740. This car has a RamJet 350/350 and it's my highway cruiser. Any recommendations on Brand name I should buy and distributor where I can get the best deal for my money? I want something quiet? Bob Haggard Eatonton, Ga.

Joe, Try hitting reply to a list posting you've received and right-click on the the "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", select Properties, then right-click again and copy the highlighted email address. Close the email and select your phonebook and create an entry for Chevelles and paste in the address. That's what I had to do because I found my self mistyping the address from time to time. Can I bolt in the rear end of the caprice to my chevelle. RE: [Chevelle-List] rear end question
No. It's too wide, and the control arms won't bolt up. For the front brakes, you can use B-body parts, but you'll need Hotchkis or Global West upper A-arms to make it work. You'll need a too-fat shim pack to get it aligned if you try to use the stock upper a-arm. As for the wrong bolt pattern, asking for '90 Camaro 1LE brake rotors will get you rotors, with the correct bolt pattern that fit B-body spindles, but metric threaded wheel studs. I've done this brake swap and it's s worth the effort. -Dave -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Jason Boivin Sent: Monday, August 26, 2002 10:27 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Chevelle-List] rear end question What I want to do is put disc brakes on my 65 and I was told that B-body parts work. Re: [Chevelle-List] Rear End Question
I remember seeing in Hemmings a couple of speedo place's that will sell you the correct speedo-gear. You need to know your tire size, old and new gear ratio and trans type. (manual, 350, 400, 700R4,etc). I'll look tonight and see if I can find it again. By the way, I work with Chuck Finch of American Plastic Chrome. If anyone has a question I'll ask him for ya. He is very busy, but if someone sends him something to do, let me know and I'll ask him to give it a priority. To correct your speedo, you can go here: http://my.core.com/~faldrich/speedo.htm OR Here: http://www.novaresource.org/speedo.htm Either should get you in the ballpark so the speedo is accurate. rick schaefer 72 El camino http://members.home.net/jimmy4/rick1972elky.html ACES #00140 Team Chevelle #00038 - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You can calculate reasonably close using this calculator: "allows you to determine the indicated MPH on your speedometer after changing gear ratios or tire sizes." http://www.prestage.com/carmath/Speedo.asp and http://www.prestage.com/carmath/calc_Gears.asp [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Greetings Gang, Just finished swapping out 2.73 gears and installed a posi set of 3.08 gears. Re: [Chevelle-List] Rear End Question
Your speedometer will read about 13% high at all speeds (3.08/2.73 = 1.128). RE: [Chevelle-List] Rear End Question
Title: Message Your speedo will be off by ~10%, assuming it was accurate before. Your car thinks you have 2.73 gears, but the wheels are actually spinning a bit faster with 3.08 gears. When your speedometer says 60, you will likely be going ~53 mph. You can test it by checking the odometer over a known distance. Next time you're on the highway for a bit, use the mile markers and check your accuracy over a 5 to ten mile stretch. If the odometer is off by a certain amount, so will your speedometer. when i went from a 2.14 to a 3.42 in my 86 Cutlass, it threw the speedo off by 25 mph. i would say in your case it may throw it off 5-10 mph Tom
