65 mph in my Cutlass with a 3.42 gear is around 2600 RPM's with a 26" tire.  Hope this helps

I have a RPM calculator at
http://www.team67.com/information/rpm_calculator.htm  Simply plug in
your trans, tire size, ratio and speed to get an rpm for that scenario.
You can play with the ratios to see the effect on rpm at a given speed.

I have a 454, with a th 400 and a 26" tall tire, my favorite cruising spot is 
50 miles 1- way and I would be willing to sacrifice some speed for more
