Re: [Chevelle-list] 1969 Chevelle Frame
The extra body mounts were cushions only and they went adjacent to the front corner mounts under the firewall. Convertible and big block cars got them. All frames are already prepared to have them there so you can put them on should you decide to pull the body off the frame. Tom
RE: [Chevelle-list] 1969 Chevelle Frame
RJ I am a professional resto rod builder. I have built a 71 ss454 rag and a 66 ss396 rag. am also in the process of doing a 64 rag and a 66 malibu and a 300. as far as I have ever seen there never has been any difference between a smblk and a bigblk car frame. the only one that is different is the rag frame which is boxed in. The biggest diff will be engine mount towers on the frame the BB are different from the SMblk. As far as the 10b vs 12b 12b is defently stronger but not totally nessasary unless you are goin to put alot of HP to it. Like over 500hp with high stall or 4 spd. with big tires. if you have any more ?s I'll wath the list or you can mail me direct. Is there any difference between a 69 2dr/ht big block frame and a small block frame? I've heard there are braces? Would they interfere with anything from my small block 69 malibu? Would all my suspension just bolt on? Even the small block springs? And does it matter if I have a 10 bolt or 12 bolt? Thanks -Ron Winkler _ On the road to retirement? Re: [Chevelle-list] 1969 Chevelle Frame
hey ron the engine mount tower's are the same small block or big block, only one tower for all v 8 cars, the only difference in your frames are the option bolted to it like sway bars and body mount, 10 bolt rear are fine upto 250 horse after that i would go with the 12 , gl rick
Re: [Chevelle-list] 1969 Chevelle Frame
Let me clear up something about the engine frame mounts on 68-72 specifically. There are 3 different ones and they are as follows: 6 cylinder, 307, and all other V-8s. The 6 cylinder mounts are obviously different. The 307 mounts are in a world of their own and are taller than the other V-8 mounts. You must use a 307 engine mount on any other small block if that's what the car originally came with. The other alternative is to swap out the frame mounts for a non 307 V8 application. Tom
Re: [Chevelle-list] 1969 Chevelle Frame
For engine mount stands this is correct. My car was a factory 307 car and I had to get the other V-8 mounts in order to put a big block in unless I wanted to Mickey Mouse it and use 307 mounts (in between the stands and the engine). There was no way I was going to trust big block torque with small block mounts. Now for BODY to frame mounts, there were an extra set that were used on the big block cars. It's an option when buying body mounts. I do see on the frame where those mounts would go up front. However, I do NOT see where on the body they would mount to, unless the factory welded on a special mount platform onto the firewall? Anyone have any pics of those inside big block body mounts? I may opt for it if I can be convinced I will need them with a big block in there, and they are available in repro. Re: [Chevelle-list] 1969 Chevelle Frame
Funny I could of swore those extra mounts were on convertibles and had not darn thing to do with a car being a Big Block. Sure would make it easy to pick out a clone (non SS made into an SS)if they were missing those extra mounts. Larry (Z)

The only difference is a convertible frame and those on El Caminos and Wagons. There were additional suspension braces in the rear, they are bolt ons. Tom

I was told I could put a BB in my 69 with the addition of some braces (I think they were bolt on) and beefier suspension.
