 Hey Ron,

All SS' were equipped with a 396 with 3 different hp versions, the turbo auto trans was optional and only on the 396,but you could'nt get it on the 375hp engines tho.The SS' had a blacked out grille, rear cove panel, the hood scoops, rocker wheel wellmldgs and side accent stripes. The blacked out instrument panel was only for the SS' along with all the SS' badges.A vinyl bench seat was standard, the redline tires, dog dish caps were also standard. You could get the disc brakes with ralley wheels redlines as an option, and you know about the tach headrests. El Camino SS' weren't built in '67 but you could get all the SS package without the emblems.I don't think they came with the full guage package, the trim , interior conveniencepackages were all options. Mostly tho you could get whatever you ordered they offered for that year. That is a beautiful car, it is funny seeing it with a bench column shifter.

The
gauge package (RPO U14) could be ordered on any V8 sport coupe or
convertible,so it wasn't a SS-only thing and it's not clear if it was
available on the Elky. Chevelle options brochure says V8 sport
coupe/convertible only (meaning no L6 cars and no wagons) and the Elky
literature doesn't mention it. Correct that you could get any of the 396
engines and any trans in the Elky (TH400 with 396 only) and no SS Elky until
1968. The trans option might have changed after printing theoptions
brochure however. The trim level on the Elky was still Malibu level in
67. Lower belt line trim, wood grain dash strip, NO SS hood even with the
396s,and even the Malibu script above the glove
compartment.

Right, only the SS got the black dash strip - it was
part of the SS option. The Custom Elky (135xx/136xx) got the same interior
trim as the Malibu (wood grain dash strip and nicer seat coverings) and the
standard Elky (133xx/134xx) strip like the 300 Deluxe. The base 300 had no
dash strip.

Not all the goodies came standard on an SS, most of those items were options, IE bucket seats and console, gauges, etc.

RE: [Chevelle-list] 67 options

2004-09-08 Thread Dale

In 67 the Super Sport (SS396) came standard with bench
seats, 3-spd manual trans (floor mounted), and no gauges. The wood grain
was standard with the Malibu and the black crinkle finish standard with the SS -
BUT - the crinkle finish is all that is reproduced to my knowledge so that's not
a good indication. The gauge package with the tach is also available in
reproduction. Optional were buckets, console, floor shift (auto or 4-spd),
gauges (any model with a V8), a 2-speed Powerglide or a 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic
that could be had on the column or floor shifted if buckets and console were
ordered.

The VIN is the only way to tell on the 67s. The SS
will be either 13817 for the hardtop or 13867 for the convertible.
Anything with 135xx or 136xx is a Malibu.

If it's *numbers matching*, the engine should be coded
correctly for the assembly timeframe and correct for a 67 engine.
Transmission and rear end should also be coded correctly for the
assemblytimeframe. If the claim is valid, the seller won't mind
sending you the following:
1. All data from the body plate (trim or firewall
tag)
2. Numbers stamped on the engine pad in front of the
passenger side head.
3. Numbers on the rear axle housing.
4. Current paint and interior colors (should match data on
the body plate).

What's the item number of the car? A cursory look
might reveal some flaws.
