Hey guy!
Hope you're doing well!
Glad you got the tire but hopefully you won't ever have to use it (I mean that
in a good way!).
As for my RT, it is a 2009 Challenger R/T Hemi optioned as close to the 1970's
vintage Vanishing Point movie car as I could get.
My dad was a GM Mopar guy his whole life and supported me on the GM A-body
road also my brother on the Mopar E-body road, helping me restore the SS my
brother restore his 72 #'s match hipo 440-6 pack Challenger Rally (what the R/T
became known as in 1972).

The 3 of us had a great time with the hobby and it was more than a hobby, it
was a way of life. But when he came down with terminal kidney cancer last year
and it was clear I'd be faced with taking care of my mom, we talked about it at
length and came to the decision that I'd sell the SS and go over to the Mopar
side for a few reasons:
- the 2 cars I've loved since childhood have been the 68-69 A-body and the
70-72 Challenger
- in this next/current phase of my life, I won't have time to do much wrenching
for this next part of my life and as you guys all know, cars need to be run
cared for or entropy set in, so I couldn't bear to see the 69 just sit in the
garage and being an American Iron guy who can't go without having some sort of
muscle to drive, I needed something
- Dodge did in fact bring out the long-rumored Challenger with nearly 400HP and
did a good job with being faithful to the original in the remake
- with 0 miles on the odometer and a full factory warranty to work the bugs out
of it, I can turn the key go for the next # of years without having to have
the time to keep it on the road (and since time will be at a premium for
awhile in my life, that's worth something to me so that I can have a seat in a
real car still). Aand not that it matters much since all the American car
companies will be out of business before then sadly - it did come with a
LIFETIME warranty on the HEMI, the 5-speed trans and rear end
- Since my brother has the 72 Challenger and takes it the Mopar shows, etc.,
with my own Mopar I can become part of that clan and keep it in the family and
now we have a matching set of WHITE R/T Challenger (the original and the 2nd
generation), so it's all in good fun
- And the best part is that it was a family decision and even though I hated to
let go the SS as it was a heckuva car, the RT for what it is is a nice car too
My dad passed away after I ordered it, so he never got to see it on this side
of Heaven, but someday I'll get to tell him about it and in the meantime, I put
his birthday on my vanity license plate and he's with me wherever I drive it.
It's not a GM, but in this day age, a eHemi Mopar is close enough and you
won't see me driving a Subura Impressa with a gull wing and a coffee can
exhaust. And with the #s of them buzzing around the local streets always
looking for action, now that I'm through the breakin period of the Hemi, it
could be exciting :)
If GM had put out a 68-69 Chevelle remake faithful to the original, I would
have bought it instead of the RT. And yes, I did look at the photos of the
forthcoming Camaro (and I did drive 2nd generation Camaros awhile back), but I
just couldn't get past that speaceage looking frontend. I need something that
looks like the era in which I grew up. I know it has more HP than the RT and
if they had put a 67-68 Camaro frontend on it or a hideaway headlight 69
frontend on it, I woulda been hardpressed. The sides rear look well done,
but I just couldn't get past that frontend that they chose. Sorry GM. And I
did in fact see my 1st one live up close at the local Chevy dealer last week
(a black one) and yep, the front end looks in person just like it does in the
photos :(
Like I said in my last email to you, best wishes with the El Camino and
hopefully you'll never have to use that compact spare!
  :)

[Chevelle-list] Any 67 or 68 guys out there looking for some FREE stuff?

2009-05-03 Thread Jim Hunter
In the continuing effort to give away some miscellaneous odds ends that
I had leftover in my non-1969 Chevelle archives (I was a 69 guy who long
the way ended up with some other odds ends), I have a couple items that
the 1st claimer is welcome to for FREE if you'll cover the postage:

- OPG 2003 fold-out calendar (2'x3') with a large photo of a red 67
convertible

- Framed large color print of a black 1968 (I can ship it with the frame
or just the print).

I can send photos of either items to anyone who is interested,

Jim -09-Challenger-RT- H.
