Re: [Chevelle-list] BIG BLOCK CHEVELLE HEADERS
I agree. The only headers I could make fit on my '70 were Hedman 1 and 3/4 tubes but they fit perfect and have stayed in place and tight since Day One. They seem to make nice low-end torque with my 402. I had to re-route the starter wires through some heat shielding but that's to be expected. - Original Message - From: "Clint Hooper" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "The Chevelle Mailing List" Sent: Tuesday, October 25, 2005 1:18 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] BIG BLOCK CHEVELLE HEADERS > Let's face it,guys. If you have Edelbrock heads and use aftermarket head bolts (ARP) with the Hooker/Jethot headers on a BB the head bolts hit the header flanges. So far,the only ones I've seen that will give me the best ground clearance and allow a manual transmission are the Sandersons. Hedman and Patriot make intermediate headers that have good ground clearance but won't allow a manual trans. Some people swear by Hooker or Hedman but from my experiences,I'm not impressed at all. It seems that you really do get what you pay for, especially when it comes to headers. Having said that,I may end up buying a pair of Stainless Works full length units. They cost around $600-700 but supposedly tuck up under the undercarriage very well. Will your Chevelle be lowered? If not, your header options increase considerably. I never buy headers coated, only bare. That way I can correct or rework any flaws, first. All my coating work is done by Performance Coatings of Oklahoma City. They normally charge me around $125-150 to coat my headers and their work is first class. Customer service is outstanding, too. Phone number is (405) 525-9790 and ask for Chuck Simpson. He's the owner and a good friend. Re: [Chevelle-list] BIG BLOCK CHEVELLE HEADERS
Clint, I've been doing some web research on Sanderson headers. I've found several complaints about their headers cracking where the primaries come out of the flange, and the alarming part is cases after case, these people are saying they got the cold shoulder from Sanderson. Not one received satisfaction. Of course I found many recommendations, including yours, but I read enough negative stories that I'll consider others first. It's a shame. Thanks for the suggestion Clint. I was looking at their website today. Having an experienced list member recommend them makes a difference. I'll look again.
