Reading one of my car mags other day and read article on a car that was a very nice car, really looked good. Reading the article the owner went on and on about building the car themselves and built it the way I wanted it with no help from anyone. Ok, now after reading the complete article all the owner actually did was write the checks to whoever did the work. All the owner really did was select the places to have it worked on. Now the owner did pick out the color scheme and which motor/trans to go in the car, but at no time turned any wrenches etc.. I think this owner should say they paid someone and had it built to their specs and not claim they built it. I have no problem if someone can pay to have one built if that is the way to have a car. Not everyone can actually build their car. I have to have my paint and body work done as this is something I am not good at nor do I like to do paint and body work. Whether my personal cars or a customers car I don't do paint and body. Nor will I take credit for the paint and body on a car. So should I just ignore this peeve or still get snarly at those folks? D.R. Let it go. Take pride in what you do with your hands..whether it be cars, motorcycles or home projects. It bothers me as well that many say they built it the way they wanted it..but haven't wrenched on it. I have a friend with a 67 camaro that he didn't build but talks like he did. He also has a premo bathroom that my wife loves. He says yeah I did this. As soon as I asked him how he cut the marble he offered up that he paid someone to perform the project. Like I said Let it go. Take pride in what you do with your hands..whether it be cars, motorcycles or home projects. Re: [Chevelle-list] Peeve
This thread is interesting to me as I do restoration work for others. I have never run into a situation where a customer has taken credit for my work and don't know how I would feel about it. I can say that magazines should print articles about nice cars and give proper credit to the people who make them nice. And owners should be allowed to be proud of their cars regardless of how much personal sweat and blood they put into it, just don't take credit for the work they paid to have done. Re: [Chevelle-list] Peeve
I was at a cruise last weekend and this guy had a sweet camero 67 there abouts. I watched the guy use an aerosol spray can to clean the windshield with some foam stuff. The part I didn't like is he sprayed the window then sat the can on the beautifully painted hood (twice). That doesn't strike me as some one that built the car but only bought the car. My two cents.
