[Chevelle-list] Shifter HELP

2003-08-24 Thread Zieg72

I just learned the 4 speed linkage is mounted to the crossmember on 72
Chevelles. Does anyone know where the propper placement of the bracket that
is available to be welded to the crossmember, or is it easy to figure out
when you see it out of the car. I am switching from a M-21 to a New Process
A-833 and it does not have the front set of mounting threads as in the
muncie case for my current shifter, it just has the rear and the shifter
would mount to close to the seat. I have to get the right shifter and
linkage set-up for the car then all should work. If anyone has pictures or
a link I would be appreciative. Also if anyone has the shifter and linkage
I need I would be interested. I have looked at this car in my garage for
over 10 years and need to get it done so I can start enjoying it. Thanks
for the valuable knowledge gained from this list.

RE: [Chevelle-list] Shifter HELP

2003-08-24 Thread Cecil \Steve\ Martin
Zeig,
I too was talked into going with the A833 that came out of a Chevy
Truck from around 81. Has an overdrive 4th gear ratio. Worth a shot at the
decent price I had for a budget overdrive. It fits standard GM stuff (with
the exception of the bell housing..larger opening), so if it don't work out
I'll go with a new Super case M-22 or a Tremec later.

The mechanic that talked me into it said a Hurst shifter for a Muncie should
bolt right up. I haven't bought the shifter yet to verify. If not, I'll fab
something up. I have a welder. Mine is going into a 69 Chevelle. Not sure
what the difference would be.
