Big enough for me!
But the link didn't make it through.
I always like to check out 64-65's with wide tires to see what was done to get
them on.

295's will easily fit under your 69. What width are
the rear wheels and what is the backspacing? The latter is critical when fitting
a tire of that size. Either a 15x8 with 4.5" backspacing or 15x10 w/5.5" will
center that 295 in the fenderwell.

I've got to hand it to you,Craig. Not many people
want to go with smaller rear tires. My suggestion would be a 15x8 rear wheel
with 4.5" backspacing. That sizing will allow you to run anything from a 235 to
a 295 and that backspacing will keep the tire centered in the wheelwell. The
only problem with cheaper wheels is sometimes their backspacing options are very
limited. However,if you want to run a tall narrow tire like a 235/70,backspacing
isn't as important.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Wheel size

Craig,

I'm no expert on this, but here
goes.

Backspacing: the distance from the
mounting surface of the rim, to back lip of the rim.

Your tire, 295/50/R15.

295: this number is how wide the
tire is, in millimeters.
50: this is how tall your sidewall
is, its a percentage of the first number. So on that tire, the sidewall is 50%
of 295.
R15: the rim size.

Hope this helps a little
bit

King-

Craig;

I'm old school, have Rally's on my Malibu. 15X7 w/235-60's on the front and 15X8 w/255-60's on the rear. BFG's. I think it looks fine, I don't race it. ..ds

I was figuring a 235 60 R15. I’m not into the drag racing look that I have now. Thanks
Craig

I have 215 70 14's on my 69 and don't have any clearance or backspacing
issues. I have considered 15 wheels with lower profile tires every now
and then. I think anything I can do to stiffen up the handling of this car
would be a good thing. It's pretty loose and sloppy right now.

I'm kinda known as the unofficial Tire Wheel
guru over on Team Chevelle. These cars can handle some serious rolling stock if
you know what you're doing. Feel free to email me if you have any
questions.
