Re: [Chevelle-list] brake conversion

2008-06-25 Thread Jim Chris
That proportioning valve looks exactly like the one I took out for the 4 wheel
drum and does not have any button but the new one which mounts just below and
to the right of the resivior is longer and has a button on the front. I will
take a pic and send it . thanks, Jimmy .C

Does the prop valve look like this one:
http://www.inlinetube.com/images/Prop%20Valves/pr106.jpg that is the button
on the left. My GM service manual (for 72) says that button needs to be
pushed in when bleeding rear brakes. They have an explaination, but honestly
its been so long that I can't remember the details. Something to do with the
auto shut off of fluid (safety feature) if you get a leak at either the front
or rear I think.

I converted from drum to disk up front with a kit from ground up (THE
RIGHT STUFF product) and I cant get the original rear drums to bleed . is there
something with the distrabution block that I was supposed to do ? I followed
the directins as I understood them.I will call them tomorrow but am anxious,

I had the same problem when I did my '71. It ended up that there was a
build-up of rust behind the bleed valves on the rear drums. I was able to use a
small wire to break the rust loose and bleed them as they should. Good luck.

[Chevelle-list] Brake conversion

2007-10-06 Thread rml438
Iam getting ready to order my parts for a front end disc brake conversion. The
place iam ordering from offers a 9 or 11 inch booster. which one do i need for
my 70?. what sre the advantages of one over the other. Thank You Bob.

Re: [Chevelle-list] Brake conversion

2007-10-06 Thread dansolomon
The 11 inch booster is original on the chevelle but will interfear with tall
valve covers if you are running a big block. not sure if the 9 inch will clear
or not. I know the small aftermarket styles will give you plenty of room.

Thanks,
Dan Solomon
