RE: [Chevelle-list] gen light on - also 69 speedo question
Thanks Trooper. I never use the E-brake either because the cable is not hooked up. I actually have to take care of that very soon because I am due for an inspection at the end of the month. Last year the guy passed me but said, "do me a favor and fix that e-brake cable as soon as you can". I assured him that I would but a year later I still haven't gotten to it. Thanks Larry, I am thinking that too. I am going to get the alternator tested within the next hour or so. I put in the SFE4 fuse today and I now have dash lights. However, about 5 or 10 minutes after getting dash lights, the generator light came on. It goes on and off when I turn the headlights on and off. So, I have to see if A) the alternator is indeed bad B) whatever electrical lead that controls that light is hooked up properly and/or C) if the light only comes on when the fuse is in. It's possible that somebody pulled the fuse just so the gen light would stop coming on. However, I'd be surprised if that light is on that fuse because the oil pressure light is not. Seems to me that all the "idiot lights" would be on the same fuse. It's also possible that the alternator just died and it has nothing to do with the dash lights or the fuse. It may be just a coincidence. It's nice to be able to see my fuel gauge at night. The speedo is not correct but it seems like a bulb is out on the left side. I'll have to get the alternator tested tomorrow (before dark). Also, does anybody know what the light is at the bottom of the speedometer? I have a speedminder speedometer so I was thinking it probably has something to do with that. I haven't bothered to see if the speedminder feature works. It's turned up all the way so it never goes off. Happy motoring, John Nasta
