Did you find that ³knock-out² piece on the front of the drum? ER

I have a 70ss and I cant seem to be able to get the rear drums off. There is
no adjustment slot in the backing plate so I cant move the shoes in. I have
beat on them and pryed and prayed and they still wont move. Does anybody
have an idea or a sure fire method. Thank you all Bob Lancaster

If the drum is frozen to the studs or the center, I have had
wonderful success with PB Blaster - PB Penetrating Catalyst.
It's about $5 in most parts stores and works better than
penetrating oils to separate parts that have been together
for a long tine.

The is a slot. It has a breakaway tab. You will see an
indentation at the bottom of the backing plate just use a
punch to knock it out.

Use a lot of rust buster like WD40 etc on the studs. Let
it sit over night then wack the side of the drum towards the
face a couple of times all around.

  Good luck

You can cut the head off of the stud that holds the brake shoes to the
backing plate. There are 2 studs each shoe - 4 each side.Without the
studs, they should almost falloff.

rusted fast drums aRGHH.. If the drum rottates, ,then it;s just the lip,
,and exposing as described and backing off the brake adjuster. it the shoe is
locked and you can't turn the drum... The drum then becomes disposible..
IMHO and a BFH wwith some well plased blows makes peices of the cast drums.
YMMV

some of the drums have a slot that you can knock out on the face of the drum
then you can get to the ajustment wheel

I had 2 so bad on a parts car that I had to cut them off.  What a pain
that was.    1st drum I spent 2-3 hours messing with.  2nd drum was
about 10 minutes (now that I had it figured out where/how to cut
them).  ;-)

Sorry, I don't have any good suggestions.
