El Camino Real was the connection between the missions of California.

Starting in the south at Mission San Diego de Alcalá and ending in the north
at Mission San Fransisco Solano. Which is north of what is now San
Francisco in Solano, California.

ECC where The Road begins, El Camino means The Road.

Yessir, it doesfitting name for a great ride. Mine loves the
highway!
They got the name for it from the El Camino Real which means the
royal
road. If memory serves right it's the name of one of the heaviest
travelled trails to Mexico city (or somewhere thereabouts in the days
  before real roads).

According to the California Highways official web page
(http://www.pacificnet.net/~faigin/CA-HWYS/elcamino.html), El Camino Real
means The King's Highway. Eighth grade Spanish was a l-o-n-g time ago,
but that was the name of our Spanish book, and I thought it was The King's
Highway and wanted to research it. El Camino Real runs from San Diego to
Sonoma.

Yes, The Kings Highway is correct, and Road is equally correct from
some translations. (note: I attended El Camino Real high school) If
you travel California, you can follow this road and visit the missions,
and many highways take the same path. Have you ever noticed those funny
bells hanging from a curved pole when driving on parts of the 101 or
I-5? These mark El Camino Real.

Two other El Camino Reals are:
El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. This 1,800 mile trail goes from Mexico
City to Santa Fe, New Mexico. In the United States, this route runs
along approximately I-25 between El Paso TX and Taos NM.
El Camino Real de los Tejas. El Camino Real de los Tejas and variations
in the primary route were used for more than 150 years as the principal
route between Mexico City, Saltillo, Monclova, and respective presidios,
and the missions near the present Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico, on the Rio
Grande and Los Adaes in what is now northwestern Louisiana.

Yep and the way the Spanish language goes the royal road is also a
translation that is considered correct in some areas.

Two other El Camino Reals are:
El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. This 1,800 mile trail goes from Mexico

Hey, I'm not crazy! Thanks for posting thisI was hoping that someone
would remember the same one that I learned about. I do remember the other
one in Cali, but this one stuck in my mind when the question came up

In the United States, this route runs
along approximately I-25 between El Paso TX and Taos NM.
El Camino Real de los Tejas.

I lived in Alamogordo, NM in HS and slightly remember this one from the
history of NM book.

El Camino Real de los Tejas and variations
in the primary route were used for more than 150 years as the principal
route between Mexico City, Saltillo, Monclova, and respective presidios,
and the missions near the present Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico, on the Rio

Thanks again Bradnice to know my brain has a few cells left
